Our Own Embarassing Fans

Didn't Kyle say he was one of the astronauts once?

Yeah, but I was fairly certain he was joking when he said that.

At least I think with that boy, attempted humor is the reason behind all the stupid sheot he says. :ugh:

I don't know if you guys know this... but Tech is kind of a nerd school. The mini-500, wreck parade, budweiser song, etc. Accept its goofiness and embrace it, no need to get embarrassed.

Furthermore, everyone in this thread posts on internet discussion forums about football. That's a nerd hobby. Discussing the merits and flaws of different web browsers in a thread about nerds and football is most definitely a nerd hobby. You're all nerds, quit being so self conscious about it.

The poster on page one does not embarrass me. Fans who act like jackasses to opposing fans embarrass me.

personally i kinda like the "nerdiness" of our fanbase. Maybe it's b/c i'm a nerd myself...but i think it really sets us apart from every other fanbase out there...gives us uniqueness, if you will.

I mean honestly....how freakin cool was it to have a space shuttle flying over our stadium during a game with gt alumni piloting it?

I'm embarrassed because that kid obviously does not factor wind speed into his equations, and he ignores air resistance. Amateur.

Being a dork is part of Tech. On a side note, I went to see Calculus: The Musical this weekend with a buddy of mine. I got all the jokes.

Fans who throw stuff on the field, try to take over other schools meassage boards, or whine about respect embarrass me.

If you are a true GT fan, nerd or not, you've learned to accept the guys who paint their bodies yellow and where yellow afros. Not for me, but God Bless those guys nonetheless. I'm sure they think that they are cool as hell.

And whose digging on the astronaut guy? That guy was hysterical. No one has the balls to dress up like that at a game and dance like Humpty Dumpty.

Fans who throw stuff on the field...

Uh-oh. Not me, but Tech has a long history of this crap. Also, I just graduated from college, so this isn't some Dad who takes his family to the game saying this, but to all the people who yell bull**** when a bad call happens, you realize you just make Tech look stupid on TV, right? I know we don't like Duke, but I happen to agree with this letter sent by the Duke President to the students in 1984: LINK.

I don't think many of the things listed here are embarrassing.

What is bad is the cussing at a blown call (nationwide to a point), the throwing of objects (such as the BC game a few years ago).

Those are embarrassing.

I wish we could seperate ourselves from other fan bases by not hollering "BS" at a refs call.

Surely some bright person could come up with a clever alternative?

Re: Our Own Embarrassing Fans

Reading about people ripping on the FSU glitter faeries (or whatever the hell they were) got me thinking about some of the oddballs you see at our games.

Let's see... here's some clips of our Dancin' Astronaut from last years game vs. Miami: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96crO__eCOU

...and while looking for that, I found this:

And then there are the GTGs, who make me cringe everytime I hear or see them.

But it's all good. :laugher:

What else ya got?

HOLY CRAP. OUR FANS KNOW EQUATIONS?????

Dude. That is so embarrassing. Why can't our students pretend to be idiots who skip class every day and are just at school to party like all those other cool schools? Maybe they should have made one of those clever and completely original acronym signs with the name of the network in them. Those signs are so badass and creative, unlike this piece of trash.

Seriously though, if you guys are upset by these things you A) probably didn't go to the Institute, and B) really need a new perspective on what it means to be a Tech fan. Yeah, we're different...would you rather us be like other schools of our quality and just not go to football games?

Yeah, the fans hollering BS at a refs call is the only thing I don't like. We should have more class than that.

As for being a nerd, the 6th time I was called that at the F$U game, I kindly pointed out that us nerds are likely to make more money as we get older, thus becoming cooler. At the same time, our opponents fans will not and will become nerdier. I thought it was a pretty nerdy response of me but I liked it anyway.

We caught a ton of crap down in Tallahassee. There was no comparison to these douches and the extremely nice MSU fans.

LOL! This poster... is hanging on the wall in the living room of my apartment. I was there when it was drawn, and the owner is one of my best friends.

People who don't understand physics make me cringe =].

What we need to do is hire the Big Bang Theory Actors to put on a Go Tech cheer. :) (TIC)

Seriously, if you watch that show, I am sure you can see at least one of your classmates in each of those roles.

Classmates? I'm not gonna lie, I see myself in some of those rolls.

Haha, in response to the astronaut, he is one of my fraternity brothers and the kid is hilarious. He bought a painter's suit and painted it to be an astronaut once he heard about it because he did not have anything else white, it was just a joke that turned out to be great, he got on ESPN with his helmet on the cameraman.

I went to school here: http://uwaterloo.ca/

which is a sort-of-GT-Canuck-style, but with football teams that are far, far worse. As we would be getting pounded by 40+ points-per-game, our Warriors Band ( http://www.warriorsband.com/ ) would start the chant, "that's alright; that's OK -- you're gonna work for us one day!"

See? It could be worse -- just sayin' ... ;)

Note that when I started this thread, I closed with: "But it's all good. What else ya got?"

Not digging on anyone. Just saying that we've got precious little room to talk before we start criticizing glitter faeries.
