I thought flunkgate was before Gailey.

Both the first probation and Flunkgate (separate things) were during the Gailey years. The probation hit Tech for playing ineligible players during the O'Leary years. This was due to mishandling/reporting of credits for certain SAs. Not sure specific details on that, but I know some speculated that it could have been due to the transition from quarters to semesters which occurred during that time. Regardless, we didn't have our ducks in a row.

Flunkgate was a separate issue. I thought consensus at the time was that Gailey, being a recent pro coach, did not have the level of oversight of SA's academics that's required in the college ranks. We also had some hardasses in the Admin office IIRC.
