You're not wrong, but at that point it's a completely different offense. The "equalizer" part of our option is due to getting numbers advantages that nullify talent disadvantages. We couldn't run the same plays anymore if we switched to zone blocking with narrower splits.run a system that OL prospects want to come to. Thats the issue. If he modified his offense for a more pure zone scheme, which you can, it would be a ton better in recruiting and pass pro...but...oh wait..nevermind.
That's never going to happen with Paul Johnson, and nor should it. You don't hire somebody like that if you don't want him to run his offense. That's like hiring Mike Leach and telling him to run the ball more. When we're at the point where we need to abandon the offense, it's time to abandon the coach.
