You mean the drive that was completely scripted? And then he couldn't adjust to NC States adjustments? The opening drive where we went 80 yards for a TD in like 4 plays.

I may be alone but I didn’t Pat was that bad.
I don’t want him back but I thought he was better than a lot of people given what we had.
Look at our opening drive vs NC ST. Look at the play he called vs Clemson that would have won the game if we ran it right. Look at our last two plays vs Duke last year.
He wasn’t the best in the business but I never agreed that he was not a good OC.
1. He and Key were never able to develop the OL.I may be alone but I didn’t Pat was that bad.

By that point in the season Gibbs being on the sidelines may have had more to do with Gibbs mindset than it did anything P was doing.vs Notre Dame:
3rd & 5 near midfield: Time-out. Gibbs on sidelines
3rd & 5, coming out of the TO: False start. Gibbs on sidelines
3rrd & 10 - dumbass play resulting in 4th down.
P-nut sucked.
I thought the man was a completely inept P5 OC, but he's not so bad he'd get fired after a handful of weeks. Your comment is the most likely. Next in line in terms of likelihood is he diddled a young staffer or made a very inappropriate comment/ got physical with a player. I don't see him doing any of those.I heard he had a illness in his family that he had to take charge of.
Gibbs mentally left GT with several games left.By that point in the season Gibbs being on the sidelines may have had more to do with Gibbs mindset than it did anything P was doing.
We were limited roster-wise (particularly lines, DB) in what we could do. Especially under those circumstances discipline is key and '404 The Culture' was anything but and we all know the author of that.1. He and Key were never able to develop the OL.
2. Too many delay of games, false starts, not getting the proper personnel on the field for the designed plays, and unnecessary time outs—self inflicted wounds. That is poor coaching. They were unable to teach what they were trying to run.
I kind of got that same impression. This is totally guessing on my part but I don’t think the young man could not get used to losing. Which we did a lot of during his two years with us. It will be interesting to see how he responds at Alabama where his team will win most of not all of their games.Gibbs mentally left GT with several games left.

I was a bit surprised we kept Key; but that tells me the leadership thinks the problem was Pnope. Maybe the problem was Pnope & Key didn't mesh well; but when it came time to vote someone off the island it was 'good bye Pnope'. I hope Long & Key work together better and things shape up this year.
You can praise Paternaude all you want; but with all the coaching shakeups around just the ACC, let alone the league; his ending up at ODU speaks volumes about what those who know football think of him as an OC.
So what does it say about Dan Mullen that he’s coaching HS now?
Collins was a much worse hire than Patenaude.ODU dodged a disaster. Too bad GT wasn't as fortunate. Collins made a bad hire and didn’t have the guts or competency to do what should’ve been done after year one.
Gibbs looked bored during the Miami gameGibbs mentally left GT with several games left.
Well we could cherry pick any failed drive under CPJ and say something critical yet we all agree, like him or not, he was a triple option innovator. Against ND or UGA there was no amount of offensive genius that could have overcome such a vast talent gap. We maybe score a couple TDs with an offensive genius at the helm in those games but we still lose by 40+. Maybe Patenaude was a terrible OC but with that kind of talent gap and triple option players, you will never know for sure.vs Notre Dame:

Maybe you're right but I just think it's really hard to truly evaluate anything when the gap is that bad.Talent gap doesn't explain away a false start coming out of a TO nor the weekly unpreparedness our O often showed.

We are heading into year four. The transfer portal makes it easier to close the talent gap. We should have a good idea where we are by the end of October. The OL and DL will determine our success.
