Since there's no way in hell I'm paying for a sub to The Athletic to read Jeff Schultz, is there anybody who can shed light into this chatter of PJ retiring "when it's not fun anymore"? Is it realistic he'll retire after the bowl? Or is it going to take another season of Gailey-esk ball and multiple low attendance records to force Stansbury's hand?

Stansbury impresses me as not having the stones to make that call. Like most of the alumni out there, he's praying that CPJ will retire "when it's not fun anymore" so they don't have to confront him. Wasn't today fun?:lol: Of course, we didn't collect $216,000 to coach that turd of a game, did we?

If Stansbury can’t fire an obviously failing coach like Danny Hall, you’re right. There’s no way in hell he could fire CPJ.
 
I thought the SEC network talk of retirement was uncalled for unless they know something and wanted to appear prescient. I do think CPJ is likely to consider whether or not he wants to coach a few more years or go out now. I don’t see him staying for only one more year. We lose seven starters on defense and five on offense. A lot of outside blocking leaves with Stewart, Searcy and Lynch. We have to get a new starting QB. The schedule is tougher with NCSU replacing Louisville and a trip to Philadelphia, playing only one instead of two cupcakes. If he wants another great season or two he knows it will take coaching another three to five years.
 
Yes they were pretty much begging him to quit for the good of the game I think. And this game did not end worse than 51-7, but it was absolutely Chantastic...
 
Paul will not retire. I know this because he is ööööing stubborn and goes against the grain on everything he does. The game has passed him by and we want him gone so he will stick around.

On the other hand, if we were running like a finely tuned machine right now, this would be when he would decide to hang it up and return to the NC mountains.

It’s just the way he is.
 
He is safe with 7 wins and a bowl trip and is getting a Bonus for the Bowl game and 7 wins...
 
PJ has enough money.
If he didn’t think he could win 9-11 games within a year or two with the talent he has, he’d walk.
He’s had the option of moving to another program for prob 5-7 yrs now, but I think he likes it here, despite the academic challenges & the self-hating fan base.

I’ll bet if we offered him next year’s salary he will retire. Otherwise he has to work for next year’s salary and then get the buyout. He’d be better off leaving now and we’d be able to move on sooner.
 
The most tasteless thing yesterday, even worse than the game, were the announcers speculating on CPJ. They know nothing. Here - I'll match them. I like Kirby - but he secretly has a passion for Bobby Petrino. There - let's just make up stuff.

If he has enough money, then he should refuse the bonus for making a bowl game. Give the money back to the assistant coaches like Dabo did at Clemson. Even a symbolic gesture like that might go a long way towards getting some of the fans back on his side.
 
If CPJ was to retire do you think there is someone out there that can turn a tide at TECH and make us a National Competitor again?
I have a theory and I think I am correct. A big city school and then to top that off a academically tough school will always be a challenge.
I think sometimes it was better to be an independent and one could shape their schedule to create a winning season. I would love to be in the
class with Clemson and Georgia but I just don't see it ever happening in a town where you are mixed with tons of professional sports. In Tuscaloosa, or even
Athens you are the only game in town. If you are recruiting to TECH you sale the education first, the town of Atlanta is not a sale in my opinion
