Its sad because all of you are buying into the mediocrity!!! This is the most sugar coated GT fan base there is!!!
*ouch*It will just bend out of the way.
Not so fast my friend. If it’s in the last couple minutes it will probably just disappear. It will just bend out of the way.
suicide is painless....I shouldn't, but I will ask the question...UTenn has had FIVE coaches (that we know of) to turn them down. UT has great facilities, a rabid fan base, much, much more money to spend on a coach, and basketweaving majors for athletes. Why do you think we could actually hire an upgrade from PJ?
It's not accepting mediocrity; instead, it's not committing suicide.

Or maybe the OP knows nothing. Literally nothing. Not just about Tech football, but basically about anything.Maybe the OP knows something we don't.

Ahhhh. The old FOC argument. And there is something to be said for that. But we aren't going to be looking to hire Chip Kelly, or Jon Gruden, or Dan Mullen, or Brent Venables. And we haven't had five coaches in the last eleven years. But you are wrong, it is very much accepting mediocrity. Paul Johnson is better than Chan Gailey, but only incrementally. Both are mediocre. CPJ gets the raw deal of the new playoff system that he will never participate in. He has the disadvantage of competing against better coaches throughout the conference as the league continues to upgrade that position and we stand pat.
We've won 17 games in the last three years, but we're going to win 9 in one year now? I am looking forward to that.I'd be pretty happy with nine wins next season. I mean, by any metric, that's a successful season, right?

Sooooooo, you're on board with the "not committing suicide" crowd. Fine. I'm not. All those that feared that dumping Chan would be suicide were wrong. We upgraded slightly. Just enough, in fact, to rekindle the idea we just can't do any better. You make 3 points in your post, and I regret to inform you that you just went 0/3.
Had an absolutely great 2016. I would have liked to have followed that up with some sustained success, but we don't have that and we haven't had it for 20 years or more. Because, we like not having it.You must have had a very interesting 2016.

Was Smart an upgrade from Richt? It's not like coaches all fit on a scale of awesomeness and for every rung you climb you win an extra half-game per year. Humans ain't like that. If you're changing coaches because you want a "decided schematic advantage" you're going to be disappointed. Sometimes you just need a fresh voice, a new perspective, something to energize people, etc. I'm not for change-for-change's-sake (because heaven knows we could go backwards). Why do you think we could actually hire an upgrade from PJ?
