No, actually I don't like opera. But my wife does, and she trained as a singer, and even ran her own small opera company for a while. I have a very small amount of knowledge about opera. But enough to know that the Arizona Opera Studio is not one of the top opera companies in the country.

That's probably pretty accurate. There aren't a lot of thriving opera companies in the U.S. The Atlanta Opera does a great job but probably has fewer than 30 nights a year with the lights on. Even in NY the City Opera went out of business after 70 years in 2013.

Article is 11 months old, but at least it gives some insight. Apparently the board has been revamped since I last posted, so hopefully the link works.
