We only, in the games I mentioned, had one 2 for 1 situation - UConn back in early 2000s. Not tulane or temple.

If it has been tough getting tickets sold for uvag, puke, wake, and others - how the heck is it helping to bring in worse opponents?

Contrary to your correct observation however, it is not about bringing in dud opponents for 1 game here.

It is about playing better competition. Especially if we go to their place, and then have them come here.

We also had a two-for-one with MTSU. Easy road trip and a lot of Tech fans made the trip to Murfreesboro.

The year we had Tulane at home, we also had Georgia, Virginia Tech, and Florida State at home, as well as Notre Dame on the road. Every out of conference game can't be P5 all the time.

We have a scheduling strategy that includes scheduling one G5 a year which I think works for us. However, last year (UCF, USF) and this year (USF, Temple) it has been two mid-majors without a P5 non-UGA game, which makes it seem worse than it has been.

After this season, we have Notre Dame, Ole Miss, and Colorado to take us through 2027 though.

Also we didn't "help" UConn ring in their new stadium... it was actually much worse and we played in their high school stadium in Storrs, not the new place in East Hartford.
 
I think we should try to play 7 home games per season as much as possible. That leaves 5 road games per year, including the 4 ACC away games and a trip to Athens every other year. Then, add the occasional road trip to Notre Dame. So, away games that are not part of our regular set of opponents should not be an annual event, and when we do schedule one, it should preferably be a very winnable P5 game. If we beat a mid-major on the road, nobody notices because we are expected to win. If we lose, it is always considered an upset, despite the challenges of playing on the road against some teams that are more competitive than people assume. I think that playing UCF, USF or Temple away is bad scheduling.

Wait just a god damn second. Was that you running our marketing department the last 20 years? I thought I recognized you. Preach it brother. Consistent, national branding in high population areas is a bigger waste than a sack lunch without the hint of my taint.

The 2002 UConn game was played in their high school stadium before Renstchler Field opened. At least the Temple game will be played in an NFL stadium in a major city.

Scheduling is a two-way street. Too many teams were afraid their delicate little knees would shatter at the mere sight of our "dirty" offensive line. Or, probably more realistically, other major programs saw more risk than reward of playing a home-and-home with a middling team running an offense that had a penchant for embarrassing the unprepared. If we can reach and sustain relative success (or rather, when we reach and sustain national success #juice) with our new, stigma free scheme, I think we'll have a lot more big name teams interested in taking a trip to Atlanta.

I think it has already been proven that the previous staff aimed very low in recruiting. We spent very few resources on recruits that we felt were not likely to sign with us. Admittedly our resources in the past were more limited than now, and had to be used frugally.

Ironically, Temple is breaking in a new coaching staff this fall just as we are. Not only that, but they lost their first choice in a replacment that decided to Cremins them and head off to Miami. One has to wonder just how much juice the Owls will have in the tank at this point. This is a key road game heading into the bulk of our ACC schedule.
