How does limiting our own offense improve our chances? If we limit the TOs, I like our chances.
STs may be the difference here.WE lost a good one and a great one and replace with FR in their 1st game. hmmm
Tennessee wants no part of our new punter. Not that we're going to use him.
Easy, we win 62-3.Yeah, but how can we win 56-3 if our new K can't hit 8 PATs?
Easy, we win 62-3.
We go for 2 and convert on our first 7 TDs, and then TENN can't even stop our run out the clock offense. Jones runs for a 48-yd TD on a QB follow as time expires. CPJ wants to get that last 2pt conversion with zeros on the clock, and he calls for Mills to get back in there. Unfortunately, we'd begun resting the starters after that 12-play 82-yd deathmarch that started the second half, and all the starters have been out of pads for the last hour or so, including Mills. Suffice to say then, Mills enters the game without pads on and drags 4 TENN players into the endzone with him to convert the 2 point try. iiwii
Tree tds in for quarters. We win 21-7.
That said, 63-17, good guys? This will only be the 3rd time in CPJ's tenure that we have opened the season against a P5 team. The other two games:
9/3/12- Virginia Tech, loss in OT 20-17. Tech had 288 total yds (192 rushing/96 passing).
9/3/16- Boston College, won 17-14. Tech had 238 total yds (119 rushing/119 passing).
The loss to Kansas (St.) was the second game of the 2010 season.
It's too small of a sample size to make conclusions about our offense at the start of the season, but it's probably reasonable to have modest expectations about scoring points against UT in the season opener.
