Post game thoughts/observations

I disagree. Again, need to give Clemson credit for their defensive talent relative to the rest of our opponents. Mistakes against the other teams won’t be as impactful as they were against Clemson. Pre-snap penalties and better punt blocking are easy to fix relative to other types of mistakes.
We didn't lose to Clemson because of 1 or 2 plays. We had to play perfect to be within 7 of Clemson.

The end of the half thing soured me, like the time when the crowd affected his decision to go for it.

the other thing is the timeouts. We get so many presnap penalties, what difference would a couple more 5 yard delays make?

To be stark the game summed up in 3 stats-
-2 for 16 on 3rd down --doomed OFF
-2 blocked punts--TERRIBLE (oh,we forgot to practice that)
-10 penalties
that with no depth kills a decent effort--but we still were NOT close to line of 22

The comment that I responded to wasn't about Clemson. It was about us having to play perfect to win 5 games. We don't. We would have had to play perfect to beat Clemson, but I was talking about rest of season.

The great thing was 0 money downs last night.
They never announced on PA. But every 3rd and 3 4th downs we went for there were 3 people with "Money Down" signs jumping around on our sideline.

Curious what the game experience was like for folks (other than the game itself).

We parked in the CNN Deck ($30, and only like half full). Not a bad walk, although it put us at the wrong end of the stadium from our seats.

Our seats were crap. Corner of the end zone by the band, about 6 rows off the field. Couldn’t see anything. Pretty weak.

There were a fair number of Clemson fans in my section - obviously a bunch of season ticket holders sold their tickets to those yahoos. Thanks a lot, that helps with the atmosphere…

The student section, at least, was very vocal. But the stadium seems to both swallow crowd noise AND be ear-ringingly loud at all times.

I thought there was a decent crowd all around, minus some empty seats in the neutral seats around the 50s. Couldn’t get a good look at the Tech section to see how many we brought.

The A/V production seemed pretty even, maybe slanted a little toward us?

Was that Derrick Moore doing the game intro (not specific to one team or the other) on the PA/video board?

I still miss our old band PA guy. He sounded like a manic muppet, but had personality. The current guy just sounds like a nerd yelling.

The band needs to learn more songs for the stands. Seems like they played the same stuff a lot. Never got a full 3 verses of “Ramblin’ Wreck,” either, even after the TD. I was not well pleased with that. But we did do Budweiser at the right time, so that’s something.

Going back to the 90s, I’ve defended Clemson as being a friendly rival and nice fanbase. Success seems to be going to their heads, though - they’ve forgotten that they used to be a joke or an afterthought and probably will be again eventually. But at the same time, they think they’re some kind of poor, underfunded underdog. It’s weird. And after the RUTS at BDS a couple of years ago and the blatant kicking of a defeated opponent last night, I’m done with Dabo and Clemson. It’s like how the Red Sox used to be the good guys beating the Yankees, and then they became the Yankees. öööö Clemson, I hope they lose every game.

After sleeping on it, this is what GT football should have looked liked in Year 2 under Collins, not Year 4.

It's going to be too little too late. He'll finally win more than 3 games though, so he's got that going for him. Not a chance he hell he goes bowling though.
The ACC sucks pretty bad. 7 wins is not out of the question.

I've never seen a coach so thoroughly ridiculed by the announcers and the opposing coach during a game.
I keep hearing this. Wish someone would either post quotes and who said them or clips of the bashings.

This was our first visit to MBS, so we didn't have a clue what to expect.

Stopped in at JR Crickets for lunch. Actually not too bad, but still a dive.

Popped in at Bookstore. Highly disappointed at the amount of navy. I don't mind the navy all that much, but I only wanted to pick up a gold "gameday" polo. There was some "Oxford" brand (whose gold was actually not bad and saw several fans in it later), but no Adidas version to be found. Anyway, my kid got a hat and we got a couple of decals.

Stayed at Embassy Suites across from CFBHOF. The place was ~90/10 Clemson/Tech fans as was the sidewalk up and down Marietta Street. Their Alumni tailgate was right down the street at Stats Brewpub. Anyway, this had us worried early.

Walked over early to check out the festivities outside the stadium. Started at the Tailgate Town. Lots of stuff for people to do, but figured there'd be more food trucks, etc. Saw the ReqTeq booth and, unless I missed something, saw only coozies with Clemson colors for distribution. Really hope I saw that incorrectly as their banner seemed balanced. Anyway, I am sure many of those guys are UGA fans. Many on this "side" of the stadium were Clemson fans, and we found out why shortly after.

Tried to go see some ST folks and see the team walk in, but we would have had to walk around the entire stadium or go back around up some streets (or so it seemed). Went down the escalator to try and get over to where it appeared there were mostly Tech folks tailgating. They had barricades set up for both teams to walk in, but we were on the Clemson side. It was close enough to each team arriving that I guess we just did not get over there early enough. Or, maybe since it was our first time there, we didn't execute the route properly.

Started to rain a bit as they opened the doors so we went on in and found our seats. Given our propensity to usually tailgate right up until gametime, this was the earliest I've been seated in YEARS.

We were in upper portion of 103 (endzone corner opposite Clemson band) amongst mostly Tech fans. There were a few Clemson fans scattered in there, but they owned the lower portion of that endzone. Had zero issues w fans. Never made the big board that I know of.

Food wasn't bad. Beer was cold. Kid got an order of Totchos from a Fox Bros booth. We hit up Fresh Mex for a wrap and some tacos.

I was really relieved to see/hear the number of Tech fans as it got closer to game time and throughout the game.

Sound is weird in there as you mention. We could barely hear the band at times.

All in all, for what I thought was supposed to be a home game for us, the production seemed very even. My expectation/understanding (home game) might very well be wrong. The only thing I noticed in our favor was the horn when we scored.

This was a neutral site game, basically, not a home game. That’s why season ticket holders were mostly terrible.

I was mainly talking about the A/V production by MBS. I was just surprised at how neutral it seemed while expecting it to be more obviously slanted toward Tech since it was announced as a "home" game when they first unveiled the "Mayhem at the Benz" series. Maybe the UNC game was different last year (could not be there in person unfortunately) and maybe the other non-Chick-Fil-A games will be different.

UNC game was 100% home atmosphere with the PA announcer and a/v production.

I find one thing odd. I have seen lots of people talk about how we are improved. Yet, when you mention areas where we didn't do so well, you get "it was one game". Can't the same be said to how improved, we are? It's been one game???

I think it's more indicitave that folks noticed we look improved over how we finished down the stretch last year. If we came out and looked unprepared, physically outmatched, etc., you would probably see a lot of pitchforks and torches. The problem areas were things that SHOULD be able to be fixed in practice. If we came out and just didnt look to be in the same league as Clemson, that's a bigger problem.

Acoustics are really bad with the empty upper deck. I'm not sure why they didn't lower the curtain like they do for AU matches, seems like that would improve acoustics. We were row 1 in 200 level corner. View is really good from 200 level and I much prefer it to 100 level. Or section was almost entirely GT fans except one miserable Clemson fan attending by himself.

The UNC game was a true home game for Tech. All the home A/V production, and we controlled all the seats. This was a neutral site game with the A/V production kind of generic or maybe with a little from each team.

Ok. Cool. I figured it being one of the "Chick-Fil-A" games was the reason it was neutral and that is reasonable (despite it being characterized as a home game when this MBS series was announced). At the end of the day, not a big deal really.

Agree w/the rest of the post. I think that Long is a clear upgrade. Defense played w/more intensity (until the targeting ejection--never got a clean look if it was a good call or not).

The problem areas that continue and haven't been fixed in practice are the continuous penalties. Coach Key continues to appear to be a really weak link on the staff. And of course, Collins still has a lot of difficulty with clock management (you'd think he'd spend a lot of time studying that since that was a large contributor to the Citadel loss a few years ago).

Not sure if the staff upgrades like Long will be enough to overcome Collins "coaching" during gameday.

Ah I was sitting in 105 so I didn't see the signs. Should just go back to the band playing the F tuning (or D tuning) to pump them up, or even all the way turnt up (2009 represent). The money down is just stupid.
