Post-game thoughts

I like what David Pollack had to say before the game on Gameday: "Well, we know which team (Vandy) will be fielding the best defense in that one."

What is it with that guy? So many wrong things come out of his mouth....it's like every Saturday is opposite day.

Dude used to skip between plays at UGA. You really expecting earth shattering analyses from him?

Back when I was in Atlanta, I remember him on the radio show on 790. He really isn't that smart. You could tell that because he had to talk much more extemporaneously and he often sounded idiotic. Like that word I just used? He couldn't probably even context clue what that means.

Bugger him.

I came away from this game impressed with a few faces on defense. Walker was in on a few plays and his interception return showed some good wheels. Tre Jackson looks like he is eager to get some PT and was very active while he was on the field and finally Brandon Adams. He a true frosh and he is the first DT that I have seen in some time that is a space filler in the middle. He warranted a double team on every play. This is going to free somebody up along the way. This kid has JT Barnes size but with the footwork and leverage to cause teams headaches trying to run between the tackles. I know it was just a lowly SEC bottom feeder but still impressive win.

The biggest takeaway here is the emergence of the pass as a legitimate threat. We can viably pass the ball on any down, and that is huge in terms of keeping the defense honest.
So much this.

The fact that David Pollack still has a job in sports commentary is an absolute joke and ESPN is a joke for having him on their payroll.

We're 3-0 !!! Next 3 weeks will give us a better perspective as to how good we can be.

Very impressed with the A-backs running and breaking tackles. I think we have 3-4 guys that can not only break a tackle, but not slip with 10 yards of open space. There is good pass catching ability there as well. Blocking seems to be improving.

I thought the first three possessions of the game Tech started to run their base offense with more efficiency than we've seen in a good long while, but it tailed off as the game went along.
It is sorta unusual for a Tech fan posting on this board to refer to the team in third-person.

Started off like more of the same but we finally spread our wings. Good to see the D pick it up after the first drive but we still look miserable against the short pass. Where is AJ Gray? Expect to see him breaking on the ball for breakups and interceptions. We still can't get a consistent pass rush even with the all out blitz.

The offense was much improved. Ran the option very well and made the passes count when we needed them. Good to see all the backups play, especially the QBs.

Were the two illegal block calls on us legit?

We should have scored at least two additional TD's in this game.

The second one was basically a textbook chop block. They didn't show a replay of the first one.

Opening up the passing game even slightly will make such a difference in the base option stuff. Started seeing that yesterday. Qua is a player.

Rewatching the game on ESPN3 right now. We pretty much imposed our will on offense and ran the option VERY well. They loaded the middle and keyed on the BB, which CPJ alluded to in his post game presser. But we were able get to the outside, hold blocks, and make the right reads.

Really the only times we were stopped on offense is when we shot ourselves in the foot or when the backups were in at the end. The penalties killed.

I enjoyed reading all the whiny bitching about the defense in the game thread. You people really need to learn to relax.

Roof has a gameplan and it is working.

That said, I like our Nickel package. I feel like we don't lose much in run coverage and we gain a lot in terms of giving our pass rush time to get pressure on the QB. It has been that way in every game so far.

Seemed to me that 2nd team defensive line played better than 1st team. Simmons, Henderson and Adams on run downs made a case to play more.
Simmons especially needs to play more. The guy makes plays.
