Post-NSD Depth Chart

Somehow those suggestions were conveyed amazingly well in 2014 and then were completely forgotten in 2015. I know Shaq was an absolute beast and it was a blow when he graduated, but he was only 1 of 5 guys out there. I'd love to know what else changed to cause such an inept showing this past year.

Shaq had an ability to read defensive line and linebacker formations and movements in such a way that he could educate the offensive line throughout the game on changes to their assignments. Sewak has traditionally relied on one guy to fulfill this role every year (I personally believe it is because he can't do it himself). No one else filled in to take over that role when Shaq left. What you got was what you saw last season.

1.5-2s. That's all the time JT5 had when he dropped back to pass, which is basically 0 when passing off a play-action. That's why he couldn't pass and why defenses could load the line against the run.

Obviously a void of leadership not having Shaq out there threatening to kick everybody's ass.

OP is crazy if he thinks Jeune will get beat out by Howell or Philpott. He was by far the best receiver last year.

Not entirely true, JT5 gets some of the blame too. There were times when he would drop back instead of stepping up into the pocket. Several tomes it took him into a DE that was being forced outside. JT5 could have bought more time by moving up, possibly running for positive yards instead of taking a 7 yard sack.

Suggestion 1. Stand up and freaking block someone

Suggestion 2. Stop diving at ankles and flopping around like catfish out of water. That öööö might work at undersized Navy but when you've got P5-sized guys, ööööing use them properly.

Don't count on any OL coaching philosophy changes. Why would there be? You think Sewak is gonna be any different? What incentive does he have to change?

Since he survived this past season, he's clearly Teflon Mike.

** see Cam Newton

If we do not improve this season, it will be time to make a change. Johnson's refusal to fire his buddy will be his undoing. He is too stubborn on issues like this and his recruiting is pathetic!

Richt and Bobo.

Except Bobo was able to get the hell out on his own terms before he could be fired along with Richt.

Every time I see this thread title I read it as PTSD Depth Chart.

Fred Holton is going to be healthy and starting safety per my sources. Heard that kid had some pop!

So the argument is that JT5 is to blame because he's not as skilled as Cam Newton?

No, the argument is that if he stepped up in the pocket instead of rolling out we may have 7+ yard gains instead of getting sacked for 15 yard losses. Newton steps up and runs if it is there. JT5 needs to pay attention.

JT5 stepped up into the pocket more as the season wore on, so I know he is getting better at it.

He clearly prefers to roll out, probably due to his height and the sad state of our line play. When we do call for a drop back pass, he can gain an extra second or two by stepping up. That is probably double the amount of time he gets to look down field compared to his long drops which are almost exclusively to the right.

I am looking forward to JT5's development as a passer, because they clearly worked on it last offseason shortening his throwing motion. They need to continue to work on that because while his passes came out quicker he lost about 10 yards on his deep throws.

He isn't going to be an NFL qb, he knew that coming out of HS. But he has all the tools to be a really great college QB. Hopefully, we put together an OL and DL so he gets a chance to show it.

Don't think I am blaming JT5 exclusively. Blame starts with our OL coach.

Well whatever this season holds I have already renewed my tickets. I don't know what it is but I have a strange sensation that this coming season is going to be a good one. I can't explain it, I just have this feeling.
