Well I finally made it out to a practice today. The season is right around the corner now and you can just smell it in the air.
Some of the things I liked today:
- TEACHING, there is a whole lot of teaching going on with the staff and its great to see, I have spoken with a lot of the older players and they love the approach of the new staff.
- Discipline, we run everywhere we go, no walking, its full speed or get out of the way. Its great to see.
- I love the structure of practice and how its set up, I think the players enjoy it more and get more out of it.
- Our Head Coach will motivate and teach our players, he will get in their face and tell them how it is. He is not afraid to let loose on them. He is very hands on and its great to see.
- Jon Lockhart, a great kid and someone I have enjoyed getting to know lately, kid is going to be a good one before he is done here. He was very underrated coming out of Fl.
- This offense will drive people crazy, it drove me crazy watching it, the players seem to enjoy it and have bought into the system. Spoke with Bebe the other day and he was excited about it, he will have some big plays this year and is turning into an absolute beast out there, DB's will hate it when he comes blocking.
- I think Quentin Sims is a diamond in the rough, if he keeps working he could be very good before he is done at GT. Made a beautiful one handed catch for a TD today.
- Next years D could be phenomenal with how young we are, I believe it will be very good this year as well. The front 4 is going to give everyone problems, our LB's are young but they are some of the smartest kids I have been around. They should be fine.
- Mario Edwards is going to be a great addition, I got to know Mario a few years ago and he is a great kid, I'm glad he came back home. He is an intimidating presence at Safety.
- TJ Barnes will be a stud by the time he is gone, he just makes so much of a difference on the line.
- JD is happy about the O, he is all smiles when talking about the upcoming season.
- We need 2 QB's ready to go, they will get pounded on a lot, Josh can take some licks but he will need some blows. He is by far the starter, Jaybo lacks the arm strength right now but should be the backup and see time. Josh seems to be progressing nicely and making good reads.
- Roddy Jones along with JD will flourish in this offense, he is a dangerous weapon out there and it is good to see him on the field, he was chomping at the bit last season.
- Spoke with Greg S and he should be back out there soon, I really dont think he is in the doghouse, he just needs to get back on the field.
- Gardner had a slight injury but should be fine.
- Really good crowd out on the hill today and that is exciting to see, I sat there talking with a few players while looking up at the hill and they like having fans there, it gets them excited. Practice will be closed after this week though.
- Tyler Melton runs great routes and has some nice hands, he will be a big part of this offense and if Correy doesnt get back on the field will be the starter opposite Bebe.
- I cant wait till AA, Anthony Allen gets to play, he is a stud and will be a serious duo with Dwyer.
- We may add another DB next week, after speaking with him today he was cheerful and hopeful out there supporting his teammates.
- All in all I'm excited about the season and the new regime, from the players I have spoken with they are absolutely ready to go and excited about the future of the program.
Any questions I can try to answer just shoot, haven't been around as much lately.
