Practice Today

Correct, Tyler Evans is not just an average walkon. He would of seen plenty of time on the field this year and might of ended up starting at A-back with Roddy. We ran a safe return unit which doesnt set up well for big returns because of that particular blocking scheme. Out of the top 10 returners in the ACC last year there was only 4 touchdowns returned, 2 by Eddie Royal. So its not like every team gets TD's on returns, the main thing is to set up good position and hold on to the ball which Tyler did very well. He averaged 9.3 yards per return which was more then CJ Spiller from Clemson. He was not just some walkon thrown out there to be nice. Tyler is a solid player and a great kid.

thanks dem. now maybe people will finally realize...ps hes used to be just a walk on but now has a scholarship. have you heard anything about him coming back next season? just wondering

That walk on your talking about would have probably seen a lot of action in the a-back spot had he not gotten hurt. just because ur a walk on doesnt mean u cant play. it was the system gailey ran for kickoffs that prevented anyone from takin it to the house.
I never said he couldn't play...I said that putting a walk on back there is idiotic when you have a whole assortment of players who are far more likely to bust out a big return.

CPJ seems to have caught on to this.

i guarantee you if he hadnt got hurt CPJ would have him back there returning punts as well. we had dwyer (a playmaker) and corey earls (another play maker) back as returners on kick offs. is that not good enough for u? as dem or someone said before not every team has a return for a td. the main point is to HOLD ONTO THE BALL! it is far from idiotic if the kid can play. not to bash but i think u have something against walk ons. they are players too. if he hadnt deserved to be on the team he wouldnt have been. i believe tech had been under some recruiting limitations due to a previous coaches faults. that is one main reason it took till this off season for tyler to get one. 9.3 is pretty damn good when u have pretty much all 11 breathin down your neck.

Did Tyler Evans graduate already? I thought he was like a sophomore last yr?

Where do you get this idea? I have nothing against walk ons (one of our best RBs PJ Daniels was a walk on)..without them our team would ill prepared week to week. All that I am saying is that our PRs should be players who have the ability to take it to the house every time.

And frankly it's insulting how you're painting me out to be this asshole who hates walk ons.

Seriously man what's with the hostility? Something tells me you know Evans personally, which is why every time the walk-on PR argument comes up, you seemingly always surface to bash anyone who feels we should put someone else back there.

Tony Hollings was a walk-on as well. Would have led the nation in rushing for the 2002 season if he hadn't gotten hurt.

Hollings was not a walk-on. He converted from DB to RB when Gailey arrived because Joe Burns went pro and Sidney Ford was our only decent RB.

Look up recruiting class 2000.

I knew about the whole DB thing, but are you sure he wasn't a walk-on?

PJ Daniels started as a walk on, that is probably what you are remembering

dems, I really like that blog you guys at the AA put up with the pictures. Great idea.

Fwiw, Tony Hollings pissed off GOL in some way and was banished to being a back-up DB. When Chan came aboard he asked for a chance to be a running back again, got it, and the rest is history.
