Let's talk some predictions. Things you think we'll see, this coming season. Below are my predictions of what we'll see next season. I don't think we'll be overly terrible nor good, on either offense or defense. Think we'll be pretty middle of the pack on the stats. What are your predictions, for the coming season?

Wins - 5 games
Yards per game - 310 yards
Rushing per game - 110 yards
Passing per game - 200 yards
Points scored avg. - 20
Yards allowed - 355 yards per game
Rushing allowed - 110 yards per game
Passing allowed - 245 yards per game
Points allowed - 31 (inflated by games against tough teams)

Not ready to make any hard W/L predictions yet until we see who all is healthy coming out of fall camp, but I will make a few observations. We averaged right at 200 passing ypg the last 2 seasons. We also averaged about 180 rushing ypg the last 2 seasons. I don't see us staying the same in the pass game and having that much of a decline in the rushing game. With the new OC, I see us picking up a few passing yards and hopefully staying roughly the same in rushing, maybe only losing a few... I figure that would put us at about 250 passing and 160 rushing for a total of 410 or so. Actually after researching, Chip Long's last 2 seasons at Notre Dame they averaged just over 250 passing and right at 180 rushing both years. So maybe we'll fall somewhere near that.

On defense we've given up over 180 rush ypg the last 2 seasons. We have a long way to go to get that down to 110. I think if we get it down to under 150 we've made major strides on defense. Passing defense we've been around the 270 mark for the last 2 seasons, so I don't think 245 is an unreasonable prediction. If we only give up 355 ypg, we will end up ranking around a top 40 defense, and likely better than that because we will have played a tough schedule. We need that to be sub 400 to have any success.

Averaging 20 points and winning 5....smh

I think I've asked this in another thread like this already but what is anyone seeing in players or coaching that makes them think we will be better than we were last year?

I see another 3 win season that looks just like the last one.

Offensive staff is light years better.

Defensive secondary coaching substantially upgraded and hopefully Collins will be the defacto DC.

So, just on the face value of that, we will fare better in reasonably close games. Last year, five of our losses were by 1, 4, 6, 8 and 3 points. One play here or there and we win some or all of them and maybe get a bowl invite.

I’m starting to feel a little optimistic about our chances. I think the additional experience on the coaching staff is going to work wonders. And I’ll say it one more time: Weinke is head coach material. He just needs to pay some more dues. We need to lock that guy up.

You don't think the coaching hires are upgrades?

Seriously. Tillman, Weinke, Long and the guy from Buffalo?

One more TD in 4 of last years losses = 7 wins and a bowl and maybe 8 wins.

I get the pessimism but can we not “Amber Heard” the bed?

I figure we'll score 30-sih in some games. While we will be lucky to score 10 against some other teams.. I am trying to be optimistic with the 5 wins.

Based on the previous 3 years, I predict that we will lead the nation in illegal participation penalties.

5 W's and the stats are meaningless. This will put the decision makers in a quandary, especially since the President of the Institute is not one of the decision makers. Keep in mind the President of any of the 10 who have a shot of winning it all, damn well are decision makers. Is it correct though, well....dats a whole nutter thread.
