College football has forever changed. Kiffin said it yesterday and Deion proved it today. He bought a player and that’s what you are going to have to do to get the elite talent.

Indeed, and it is quite a change.

Can you imagine if Cam Newton had gotten kicked out of Florida today? He probably would have ended up at whatever school was willing to give him a six figure payday, and we never would have gotten the heartwarming redemption story of him joining Auburn for the love of the sport.

Or what about Reggie Bush? No way he would have gone to play at USC if he had the option of taking money to commit to a school. We would have been deprived of one of the most iconic pairings in pre-NIL CFB history.

Although, to be fair, some things would be better for us -- instead of Georgia attracting Herschel Walker with its rigorous academics and promises of an actual education, he would have went to whatever school could get him NIL deals for free trucks.

I believe Herschel drove a Trans Am.

Exactly. So people on here need to pull their head out of their ass if they think we’re in competition for recruits
GT isn’t an Athletic Fact. And the others have raised their academics so they offer both

we offer a degree. A öööö fanbase, stadium at 25% capacity 80 on a great yr and an All Star Slam

Now a delusional AD and fanbase have people sold we can be like the rest. Cmon. I’ll take 3yds and a wheel route for 20 yrs with 170 wins instead.

I would love to see more top recruits do this.
Absolutely. And when they do, NIL will get regulated. Hell, even the NFL has a salary cap. Right now it's the wild wild west and the blue bloods thought they would simply lay waste to everybody else. It may still turn out that way, but all it will take is for enough high profile defections away from the cathedrals, and you'll see changes, quick.

This guy is the outlier that slipped through the cracks. I would imagine the factories can get a few guys each class at these crazy rates. The QB in Athens that hardly played was rumored to get a million this year.

Football teams are too big, there won't be one player that can get a team to the playoffs himself. Only the factories can afford the sustained payroll that it takes to be at the top every year.

We should really be celebrating NIL as a way of introducing volatility into the sport to break up the current Southern State School Football Factory model. The new age can't be any worse for us than the old model was; we're a small infusion of corporate Atlanta money away from swinging some pretty serious dick in the south. Just sell the damn program to Coca-Cola and TBS for $500 M and see what happens.

Give it a few years and smaller schools and schools like us won't have a prayer at 5* athletes. Schools like Texas, aTm, and schools with billionaires backing them will be able to show recruits "our athletes earn about $10 million per season in NIL funds, GT's athletes earn about $500k. Where do you really want to go play?"

The NIL system sets up perfectly for aTm, Texas, USC, Michigan, even Stanford if they are so inclined....schools with billionaire alums. It is quite frightening where GT sits in all of this. I don't even know if UGAg can really compete with aTm and Texas money. If we had several billionaire alums who loved GT football, I'd feel good about us buying our way to the top. As it sits, we are really in a bad spot
