Give it a few years and smaller schools and schools like us won't have a prayer at 5* athletes. Schools like Texas, aTm, and schools with billionaires backing them will be able to show recruits "our athletes earn about $10 million per season in NIL funds, GT's athletes earn about $500k. Where do you really want to go play?"

The NIL system sets up perfectly for aTm, Texas, USC, Michigan, even Stanford if they are so inclined....schools with billionaire alums. It is quite frightening where GT sits in all of this. I don't even know if UGAg can really compete with aTm and Texas money. If we had several billionaire alums who loved GT football, I'd feel good about us buying our way to the top. As it sits, we are really in a bad spot

How many 5* athletes have we gotten in the past? I can really only think of one, Calvin.

Going forward, there will likely be zero. Also, going forward, 4* athletes may return to zero once the full impact of NIL becomes clear to recruits. We will be lucky to even get a visit with any of them once the cash payments become a measurable tool to recruit against us.

Yeah, you're probably right. Feels like the end game of this almost has to be the establishment of a new league/division with all of the rich schools in it.

And any of our players who have a breakout season will enter the portal and fish for a transfer to a school with better NIL money.

Going forward, we are going to have to make the most of the portal. I feel like we are going to need 4-5 players from the portal, per season, to be able to compete. The days of a Calvin Johnson coming here for 3 seasons are probably over. After his freshman season, he could have portaled himself to any of the major schools.

We should really be celebrating NIL as a way of introducing volatility into the sport to break up the current Southern State School Football Factory model. The new age can't be any worse for us than the old model was; we're a small infusion of corporate Atlanta money away from swinging some pretty serious dick in the south. Just sell the damn program to Coca-Cola and TBS for $500 M and see what happens.

Sounds like wishful thinking to me. Big corporations have little incentive to throw money at a team like us that nobody cares about locally or nationally.

The schools surrounded by Joe Don’s Bulldawg Tire & Lube places will get the small to medium deals, and the places with millionaire/billionaire alums that are willing to throw money at football (e.g., Texas - not us) will get the big deals. We’ve got none of that. NIL will be a disaster for us in the long run.
