Proposed expansion of Transfer Rule

There would be no issue if the student part of student-athlete mattered at all. In fact it would be appropriate.

It is telling that no one has mentioned whether the school registrar would enroll someone mid-semester. You couldn't come in as an engineering transfer in October. I know school is an afterthought on the field but damn at the way we think.

It is not the way we think, it is the way the SEC teams think. With the possible exception of Vandy, the other SEC schools will do whatever the athletic department tells them to do.

You won't be able to come in as a football player in October either. Nothing is changing in that regard.

Hate to go there, and I’ll leave politics out of it as a business owner, employer, and voter….

But at this point, college football and Georgia Tech would be FAR better off if a collective bargaining agreement came sooner rather than later. Regulate the rules again so everyone is on an even playing field, per se.

This would be great, but the ‘haves’ as well as ESPN would never go for it. But you’re right, this does need to happen.

Student athletes should be able to transfer to the other team during a game with immediate eligibility.

Gonna be awkward when a DL is offered a transfer to the team on offense during a game deciding goal line stand.

I guess the schools will have an increased responsibility, too, according to this.

But I tend to agree it's not a good thing. I was all for the one-time transfer rule. This will definitely diminish my interest in recruiting.

I’m surprised you still have interest in recruiting at all. The transfer portal ruined it for me.

Next shoe to drop will be those pesky academic requirements in the name of equity and fairness. Why should some illiterate player not be able to play at Stanford if he so chooses. I predicted months ago that eventually SEC bagmen will be openly recruiting players off other teams sidelines during pregame warmups.

As I said many many months ago, I see a day coming where it is by week, not year. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised to one day watch a game where a player goes in at half time and changes uniforms and plays the second half for the other team.
That almost happened in baseball.A guy got traded and played a double-header-.first on one team and switched. to other..

Council recommends unlilmited free transfers rather than a one time waiver.

About time. Only business I know of where you can change jobs and get paid to not work for a year.

No one makes students sit out a semester when they transfer schools. Why should athletes have it any different?

Because you’re committing to play a sport for a team. It’s going to be the only place where you can switch your job every two weeks and jobs would still want you.
