That was Chan the NFL OC. He seemed to have a different approach to QB development as a college head coach; maybe it was just a totally different perspective on offensive philosophy. That tends to happen sometimes to coaches once they are put in charge of the whole program.

I would whole heartedly agree with that, but I still think he'd make a better A-back then QB in Paul Johnson's offense.

Gailey was and is a fine OC. He's fine working with professionals. But he doesn't seem to have a knack for developing college quarterbacks, nor does he have a knack for hiring competent college OCs. I have nothing personally against Chan Gailey, I just don't think he understands what it takes to win at the D-1 college level. Same with Reggie, who I think played his ass off, and will forever be villified because Patrick Nix can't out-coach a brick.

So you're saying that the fact that Neil O'Donnell went to the Superbowl under Gailey somehow proves that Gailey coached up Reggie Ball during his 4 years at Tech?

Pat White, Woody Dantzler, The Vick Bros, and Anquan Bolden all would have been sick in CPJ's offense.

For the record, try again. Chan was the Steelers WIDE RECEIVERS coach in 1995 when they reached the Super Bowl, not the OC. He took over as OC in 1996 and implemented the "Slash" system with Kordell Stewart. He didn't have a thing to do with Neil O'Donnell in '95.

I'm 100% positive that Chan Gailey did not coach Reggie to walk out of the back of the endzone vs VT. Reggie just didn't have the sense to stay in bounds, nor a head cool enough to realize where he was on the field.
 
Is it safe to say that 75% of the football threads that are started end up somehow back to another ole Ball n' Chan discussion

Yikes.

The fact is that Chan didn't develop a QB at Tech. I would put more of the blame on Nix, as it didn't seem like there was any teaching going on with Reggie. My best guess is that Nix was the issue...in fact, if Chan was the OC under somebody else then we may have been better!
 
i had heard that he said vince young would be perfect for his system....but....probably without the mental issues.

I was going to post the same link. The physical toughness, decision making skills, agility go without saying. However, the final asset required is a strong passing talent. Tracy Ham had it all. My memories tell me that on 3rd or 4th down Tracy rarely disappointed.

Pat White would have been the right kind of 'sick'. The others would have simply had disabling headaches.

Wow, I would have thought Pat White would be 10X better, Tim seems too slow to me.... but still he can rumble like a FB so he makes up for it.
 
Tracy Ham at Geogia Southern was CPJ's best QB ever. When Ham was voted into the Hall of Fame, CPJ was quoted saying that Ham could have played QB at any school. Ham was drafted by the Rams, so that should tell you something. Not many folks expect a QB from this offense to be drafted by NFL teams.
