QB Situation

If we had responded to Brent Key’s end of the year last year the way he has responded to Zach Pyron’s efforts that helped him win games Key would not be a head coach tonight.
Hmm.

The QB situation is we have a solid starter in King who showed a lot of promise and made passes that we haven’t seen from a Tech QB since the Hamilton/Godsey times. He did nothing tonight to loosen his grip on the job. If anything, he showed why it’s his.

stop trying to create a qb controversy

Agreed, Hanes is a dang good QB. Can't blame him for poor play calling.

Thought the same. He has to work on his decision-making under pressure, but I don't think it's hyperbole to say he had 3-4 throws that were as good or better than 99% of the throws we've seen from Tech quarterbacks over the past 20 years.

Faulkner's rep is as a QB developer, so I expect him to get better. And I expect Pyron to get better too. He's a great #2 to have ready to go.

King played too timid. The 2nd half he just kept throwing jump balls to Blaylock. I expected an upper classman taking the job from Pyron to be a little more composed.

Not saying Pyron is better, but I wasn’t convinced by King tonight. There are plenty of other reasons why we lost tonight, but there’s no denying had King just went down on that sack and just hold onto the ball, we win that game.

And had the left guard done his job, King wouldn’t have gotten a blind side sack.

Eh, there were about four minutes left, and if he goes down for the sack, we're probably ending the drive with a FG attempt with a kicker who already missed an easy one. Best case scenario, we're up by 2 and a team we'd struggled to stop all half has 3 minutes or so to get into FG range.

Certainly it was a critical mistake, but I wouldn't say we had overwhelming odds of winning if he holds onto the ball there. Maybe a little better than 50/50 when considering both the kicking situation and the defense.

I saw a lot of good out of the QB and a costly mistake due to being unaware that he cannot trust his OLine for more than 3 seconds. Didn’t see anything to suggest he’s undeserving.

A lot of good and some things to work on to get better. Unfortunate we lost, but we can and will get better.

Part of reason King was mediocre was Buster decided to stop calling plays that were working.

That being said, Haynes King has now fooled two coaching staffs in three straight years that he deserved to be qb1 in practice and has folded under actual game pressure. Huge black eye by Key’s staff to have two years of failure on tape of this öööö and still start him. If Pyron is worse than King, WE ARE ööööED. Pyron needs to start going forward.

Purim isn’t the answer. Let it go.
