QB Situation

No denying the line was leaky all night. Plenty of blame to go around for tonight’s loss.

the depth at OL is concerning. Once Williams and Robinson went out, we couldn’t do anything. There Is serious drop off. King took some big hits running. We will see the other QBs before it’s said and done this year, especially if we can’t protect the QB. For those that think the sky is falling, Louisville is solid up front and was one of the top defenses in the ACC last year. We scored 28 points on them when our OL starters were in. They’ll surprise some people during their rebuild. They had 20+ transfers in. I’ll save my concerns on the defense for another thread. That’s a whole other discussion.

it's too hard to evaluate King's performance given the poor OL play.
nonetheless, i think Pyron should get half of the game to play against SC State.
There are no moral victories. This winnable game was a major setback for the program but season still young.
Yup, King ain't gonna last long behind this line. Pyron may get more snaps by season end.

I saw an A&M poster elsewhere when we first got Haynes said STTE of "When he has time in the pocket, he'll be the best QB you've ever seen. When he gets rattled, he'll throw a pick trying to throw it away. There is no in between." I hope this statement doesn't stay true, but it almost perfectly describes his play from Friday. That said I saw some good things and hope we can keep improving.

This was no major setback. UL was picked to finish in the top half of the conference. We held our own and lost. Yes, the second half was a disaster, but the first half was encouraging.

We are realistically looking at 3 or 4 conference wins. 3 would be a step backwards. We have 2 ooc games that we should win. None of the remaining ACC teams appear to be notable better than UL. We need Key to match the 4-3 conference record he reached last year while rotating QBs due to injury.

The near pick was awful. He’s other two turnovers were 90+% on his protection. Maybe we don’t need to run passing routes to his right to avoid those blindside hits.

More bootleg please.

I loved what Pyron did last year and assumed he was the de facto starter. Just a wild guess on my part, but I assume that a bunch of dudes whose entire lives are college football, after seeing what they have, decide Haynes King is our best option. I have no insider info and therefore cannot verify my assumption to be true. Also, as a football layman, I am under the impression that if a QB has a porous offensive line, he will not play as well.
