Question to the fan base

To the fans that have "jumped ship"

KEEP SWIMMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO TECH!

Maybe I won't say "jump ship," but the HWFO has been way out of proportion to one loss, like people can't go on living after one loss. Yeah, I would like to go 12-0 too, but there should be some proportionality to our response.

These lofty expectations are good. I think we'd all like to see Dwyer at A-back, short passing game, etc., but we have to trust the staff. They didn't get here by watching 2 hours of film and picking plays and personnel out of a hat. It will work, just have to start doing it right.

If a road loss to a top 10 team gets everyone a little pissed off, well....then we know how far the program has come in such a short time.

Go Jackets!
Beat Heels!
Drink whiskey!
Drive safe!

I think Tech fans have invented a lot of people who have "jumped ship" so that they can tell themselves what wonderful fans they are.

Look, at GT 1/3 our fans are overly pessimistic. 1/3 of our fans need to think everything is A-ok at all times. The other 1/3 just root for GT regardless.

If you want a rosegarden, GT football and its fans ain't it. But I haven't seen anyone jump ship, I didn't all that many jump ship during the Gailey era, but lord, everyone did get their panties in a wad. Congrats on continuing the tradition.

p.s. every coach gets e-mails from engineers who know more about football than they do. Like the guy behind me who gets upset when we run it up the middle every play. RE 4th quarter clemson

That guy sits behind you too? He's a dick.

I can only speak for me. I'm a GT fan. After the first 3 weeks, I felt like I had been lied to by the athletic dept. All I heard all offseason was that we were executing better and faster. That has not been the case.
right?!

i guess it was against our second or third teamers....

then when you play guys like dequan bowers and the guy that flipped roddy on his head, you hopefully....

WAKE UP!!!

There's no reason for any Tech fan to consider 'jumping ship.' No 'true' Tech fan has jumped ship.

I'm going to post about consecutive seasons with a winning percentage of .500 or better. Now I will preface by saying that I'm not one of those who is 'satisfied' with finishing at .500 or better every season, I do want to:

*win the ACC and play in a BCS bowl
*have seasons of 10 wins or more
*beat UGA three-four-five-etc.. years in a row
*play in the BCS title game and win a national championship

GT will finish with a winning season in 2009, and when they do it will be the 13th consecutive season (1997-2009) of finishing 'above' .500. Prior to this stretch, thanks mainly to B*** L****, GT had one winning season out of five (1992-1996). I was never a fan of Chan, but one thing I will say is he never let the program slide backwards --it was certainly stuck in neutral though.

This is the third best stretch in GT's storied history. GT went 22 consecutive years finishing .500 or better under Heisman/Alexander (1904-1925) and 16 straight at .500 or better with Dodd (1951-1966).

In the 30 year stretch from the retirement of Dodd after the 1966 season up to the season prior to the current 13 year stretch, 1996, GT had 15 seasons at .500 or better and 15 losing seasons.

During these 30 years the longest stretch of consecutive winning seasons was 3 years with Ross (1989-1991), the longest stretch of consecutive losing seasons was also three years, occuring three times (1967-1969, 1979-1981, 1992-1994).

The two best stretches during this time were Pepper having 4 out of 5 winning seasons (1974-1978) and Curry/Ross having 6 out of 8 seasons at .500 or better (1984-1991). The two worst stretches were Pepper/Curry having 4 out of 5 losing seasons (1979-1983) and L****/O'Leary also having 4 out of 5 losing seasons (1992-1996).

In Paul Johnson, GT has one of the better coaches we've ever had, so look for that 'O'Leary, (McWorter), Gailey, (Tenuta), Johnson' streak of 13 years to surpass Dodd's streak, and if CPJ is here for a while to perhaps surpass Heisman/Alexander --maybe with a national championship mixed in there to boot.

I don't think a significant amount of people are jumping ship. CPJ was hopefully just poking fun at that and trying to pump up the team. But if he was being serious, welcome to a BCS conference. You are now in the big leagues. What you are seeing is frustrated fans, not people jumping ship.

Are they frustrated because of 1 loss? Heck no. They are frustrated over 3 games where the team played for 1 quarter and laid on your leg for the other 3. People are frustrated that we have played 3 games, but our team has plaid 3 quarters. But the grieving phase is over. These same people are looking forward to UNC and hoping to see the offense that was advertised to us all offseason this Saturday at the flats.

Go Jackets!

I don't think people are jumping ship, but I think people are really disappointed with the way we lost. That is due mostly to the increased expectations we had. I think if we don't get hyped up like we did this offseason, if people say that the offense is continuing to grow, rather than say how much better of a team we are this year, then the loss doesn't hurt as much.

We still look better than UGA looks, and that's all that matters to me.

I think he just means in general. You know, as in, UGA people look like they just drank a jug of moonshine and made out with a farm animal, causing them to be late to work, where their job is usually something like unloading watermelons off the back of a pickup truck and trying not to molest their co-workers too much, all while continuing to take swigs of moonshine and thinking about that farm animal, until the sun goes down and it's time for a dinner of beef jerky and orange drank, before a night cap of moonshine and another stroll out to the barn, and maybe mix in a game of Chutes and Ladders if they're feeling intellectual. That lifestyle will make you look worse than us.

There are things that are much better about how we run the offense now. There is a lot of new stuff, too, that we're not up to speed on. However, I will say that the dive read seems slower than it was at scrimmages this summer. Finally, the OL was in tatters for most of the spring/summer, and we know that makes a difference. It also makes a difference when we go against a DL in practice that is frankly not as good as the ones we are facing on Saturday (or Thursday, as the case may be).

Jumping ship is a strong term. Even the worst critics aren't giving up on GT football.

However, the CPJ honeymoon does seem to be over where everyone assumes he knows more about what he is doing than themselves. There is more second-guessing of play calls and even player decisions than there was last year.

Second guessing the play calls is nuts IMO. We have had some excellent play calls executed poorly. Now, I think the defensive performance critique is more valid. And the general question of why we were gassed as a team.

I think at least one other font posted that we may have conditioned too much rather than too little. We had a long pre-season training and three quick games. In hindsight, we may have done better with a little lighter touch in preparation.

Here's hoping that Saturday puts the fears of the doubters to rest.

last year was a rebuilding year, it just didn't show. teams werent prepared, now they are. NOW it's football, where both sides are giving their all. Maybe next year will be a surge in effectiveness.

But hey, we've had ONE bad game... ONE LOSS. We played horribly, but it was ONE GAME. The team changes from game to game. Just look at last year! We got beaten by UVA, then we beat FSU, then we got killed by UNC, then we destroyed Miami and snapped the streak to UGA only to get embarrassed by LSU... THATS why I think that we'll do great against UNC, because just when you think you know how we'll do in the next game, it bites you in the ass... Here we are saying how the line is terrible, our secondary is terrible (guilty!) and playcalling is terrible...

these have been "get-the-kinks-out" games... Saturday is when the GT we all know and love should be coming out and playing.

I agree with the posters who have said that we did catch some teams unprepared last year. That is probably not going to happen this year, and for that reason, I think we might underachieve (in respect to unreal high expectations).

I am fully behind our coach and our team. I can deal with disappointment, especially this early in CPJ's tenure. I still think we are 2-3 years away from being able to start talking about possibly competing for nat'l championships.

Go Jackets!!

That's a wild avatar AlabamaBuzz, I like it  It makes GT football look like some kind of religious affair.

But hey, we've had ONE bad game... ONE LOSS. We played horribly, but it was ONE GAME.

I'd say it's 1 1/2 bad games out of three--the 2nd and 3rd quarters of Clemson were horrible. There were also chunks of the JSU game that were substandard--like the overpursuit on the halfback pass. That game should have been more of a blowout.

I let my expectations get away, even though I thought we were at least 3 years away (based on the lines) last year. Next year or the year after should be good.

Some people might be disapointed because
  1. we didn't look polished in any of our games, and the one signature you expected of a CPJ and GT team was smart, well-executed football
  2. "Da U" transformed from whipping boy to division heir apparent in one year. Their coaching got better, and they've had great recruiting. We'll have to play much smarter and more disciplined to beat them over the next few years.
I think the ACC is coming back, and we'll have to earn our spot on top. Some have an easier path there, but I think we've got a great shot.

How do you fellow true Tech fans feel about those who are jumping ship? How do you think it makes the coach feel? So new into this building phase.

And do you think it effects the players or do they even hear everything out there?

Let's hear from you.

are you going to run for congress again, mr bradley?
