Anybody remember the Orange Bowl in 2014? The MSU guys a few rows in front of me were going ape shit over why didn't their defensive coaches stop the dive play in the second half. Everyone in the stadium and on the field knew it was going to be a dive play to Days. Didn't matter. Same thing with Laskey in athens that year in the 4th qtr. Remember the ten yard out pass from Godsey to Kelly Campbell in Clemson in '00 that Ralph kept calling over and over that an undefeated and top 10 Clemson team could not stop? I was at the UNC game in Chapel Hill when Joe Burns curb stomped them in the 4th qtr on the same play over and over (might have been '01). Yes, get some perspective on college football. Sometimes, one team has a situation that the other one just cannot stop for some period of time. Still it took a miracle bounce off two helmets for us to lose the game to a Top 10 team on the road. Despite all the bubble screens, Miami made the critical mistake that our coaches were counting on with a chop block. Then on 4th down, the coaches had the players in the right position to win the game. The players made good plays, and then the ricochet happened.
Two weeks ago, everyone was bitching about turnovers and special team play. The coaches cleaned that up in the off week. Would anyone have taken the bet that we would score a Special Teams TD and have no turnovers in a monsoon in Miami this time last week? Didn't think so.
If you're looking for the repetitive pattern that frightens me, it is that we don't get any turnovers and then lose by one point. We're two for five on that count with some tough games to come.
