I went over some interesting tid-bits on Coach Edsall's tenure at UCONN....here goes...

2002

Hires DB and WR coach
Hires DC
UCONN goes 2-9 in its first year of D-1A.
UCONN finalizes brand new stadium this year.

2003

Start playing in new stadium.
Win 4 games.

2004

UCONN goes 9-3 in only its second season of D-1A.
Signed 27 football players.
1st season in Big East
Go 8-4
Finish with Bowl win over Toledo

2005

Season ticket sales grow to over 30,000.
Their old stadium only held 16,000.
Team goes 5-7 including the loss to GT when Reg got sick the night before.
Team loses 30-20 @ Louisville ending bowl hopes

2006

Lost opening game against eventual ACC champ Wake Forest 24-13. Sored more than a team who had Calvin Johnson.
Go 4-8 with a tough schedule (look it up). Big East's strongest year ever, imo.
3rd year in league.

2007

Indoor facility for football team is finalized and operational.
Lose @ UVA 17-16 on a late field goal.

More notes on the current season....
UConn is now 8-1 on the season. UConn has never been 8-1 in its 109-year long football history.
With the win UConn is now 4-0 against BIG EAST schools this season.
The Huskies have never had four BIG EAST wins in a season since joining the conference. This is the best record UConn has recorded in a conference since it went 6-2 in the Atlantic 10.
UConn is now 24-8 at Rentschler Field. The Huskies are 6-0 this season at home. This ties for the most wins at home in a season all-time. The Huskies were 6-1 at Rentschler in 2004.
Today marked the 21th sellout in 32 games UConn has played at Rentschler Field. Today marked the sixth time in nine games the Huskies have scored on their opening drive. UConn is 6-0 when they have scored in the opening drive this season. With the win UConn is now 9-18 all-time against Rutgers and 4-2 since 2001. UConn is now 12-5 in the month of November in the past five seasons. UConn has 19 interceptions this season. He's number 1 on my list.

He understands GT and Loves Atlanta. I think he would do a helluva job!

Look at how well Randy recruits FL and GA to go all the way to Connecticut:biggthumpup:

Where's the part about Edsall being under contract for a few more seasons? I don't know if he has any sort of out clause but if he doesn't, I can't imagine GT buying Chan out of the rest of his contract and then buying a 2nd coach out of a contract and then signing him.

I know Demjackets keeps saying that money isn't a roadblock but I'm pretty sure it's not growing on trees, either.

Alright let's dissect this down:

2002
2-9
2003
4-8
2004
UCONN goes 9-3 in only its second season of D-1A.
Signed 27 football players.
1st season in Big East
Go 8-4
Did they go 9-3 or 8-4??? And isn't it their 3rd season???
2005
5-7
2006
4-8
2007 - great year so far, but his first great year. And if you wanted to look at schedules:
Wins: Duke,Maine,Temple,Pitt,Akron,Lville,USF,Rutgers
Loss: UVA
Remaining: Cinci, Cuse, WVU

Alright, they lost to UVA which we are pissed off about doing. They have 2 quality wins to me w/ USF and Rutgers (both home w's). I think they'll finish 9-3. I'm sorry but he's not at the top of my list.

By the way, just so you know I'm not up for keeping Gailey either. I just think edsall isn't a step up. I don't want ot hijack your thread so I'll start a new one w/ everyone's picks for HC.

Dude, it's UCONN. Of course they aren't going to play powerhouses. And of course they don't have uber talent. Pretend he did that with Duke and reevaluate your opinion.

Randy's contract is up in 2010, he is making around 900,000 annually. Syracuse might be looking at Randy after the season if they fire Robinson. Randy played at the Cuse and coached there.

Any chance he would rather stay and continue building the program at UCONN? Hell, he took them from nothing (literally) to now the #16 team in the country...Conn is kind of his baby.

If duke had 8 wins now they would have beaten:

Uconn, UVA, Navy, Miami, WF, Clemson, FSU and NW (who they did actually beat)

That would say something different. All I'm saying is he's had a lot of bad seasons there too. Also, I don't really get the use of ticket sales w/ the head coach and certainly not when they have a undergrad enrollment of over 20,000 and we have about half that. It's not like he's been Jim Leavitt who's had only 1 losing season at USF.

Repeat after me:

"UCONN just started playing D-1 football 6 years ago."

Edsall doesn't necessarily knock my socks off but c'mon...the man has definitely accomplished something up there. Just hope he doesn't come down here with a Yankee accent er nuthin'. he he

You've got to see it from UConn's point of view. Not only are they not supposed to beat USF or Rutgers, they're not supposed to beat just about anybody they play. Connecticut has no in-state talent, no tradition, and probably very little in the way of facilities.

Just remember we aren't judging the resume of USC here. If I told you, say, after we beat UConn in 2005, that UConn would be 8-1 and ranked #18? Keep it in perspective and you'll see how Randy has done a hell of a job.

The nice thing about Edsall is he's a younger coach, and yet he's got ties to GT so he might conceivably stick around longer than 4 years.

I understand what your saying, I just don't want to declare him a miracle worker or the right man for our job just yet. Also, what's with the "he knows GT and Atlanta". He was here for 1 year as DC. I think he's a good coach, but not sure about his recruiting. Don't get me wrong, I like the guy. He just wouldn't be my first choice. I just think Paul Johnson has done a better job at Navy and knows Georgia much better.

Also, the thing about shouldn't beat USF and having no tradition and no facilities...actually work better for USF, they haven't been 1-A as long as UCONN and have done better.

I spent 6 months with the guy and he is one of maybe 2 or 3 that truly understands GT and the hill. He would be a great hire and he's who I'm backing.

I've never met Randy Edsall, but just looking at the job he has done at UCONN makes him my top choice.

A head coach has to wear many hats to perform his job well. Top among them are recruiting, fan relations and hiring top assistants. The assistants do most of the coaching during the week and along the sidelines. That's why Bobby Bowden and Joe Paterno are so venerable at such an old age.

If Edsall brings his very successful performance from UCONN to Tech, Atlanta and the ACC, he $hould do quite well for a long, long time and so $hould Tech.
