Never thought I'd miss the Chan EquilibriumWe have got to finish at least 7-5 every year. That has to be the floor. 3 of the last 4 years have just been inexcusable and its not just about the records but how we get there. Late game collapses, gift touchdowns from turnovers, zero "clutchness", etc..... Its been brutal to be a fan and it is running many off.
If cpj is gone after this year, what are your expectations for the next coach? What is the expected time frame?
I assume everybody will give him time to get his players in. Depending on what offense he runs, I'm thinking it would be year three before we can judge him. Starting year three, I would want to compete for the division every year and be top 25 consistently with wins over the dwags two out of five or better.
I'm curious to know, what do y'all think is a realistic long term goal for a new coach.
So, if you're not OK with 6-8 wins per year, a race for Coastal title every 4 years, and a magical holy-öööö-that-was awesome-season every 10 years, stop watching Tech football for your liver's and emotional stability's sake.
People can scream at me for "accepting mediocrity," but that's pretty much exactly my hope/expectation for Tech. I just don't see a world where we turn into a factory-type program. Consistently winning 6-8 puts us in the top 25 more often than not, 2-3 shots at the coastal a decade is OK (I'd like us to be in the conversation 50% of the time, really), and a 1990/2014 year once a decade would be fine by me. Even though he shouldn't have said it out loud in public, Dave Braine wasn't wrong...
Maybe I'm "spoiled" by the O'Leary-Gailey-Johnson era, but finishing with a losing record is where I draw the line. We should be able to win half our games at a minimum, and the fact that we're headed for missing that mark 3 out of 4 years is unsatisfactory to me. I'd rather Johnson stay and get it all figured out, but I'm losing faith that he CAN get it figured out.

That actually looks like a pic of a typical Tech freshman making fun of our athletics failures.![]()
included with every season ticket package in 2019.
I actually think his longtime assistants are probably the absolute best at teaching what he wants*. Bohannon and Monken, I think, were big reasons for our early success. The problem with the “he has to sacrifice a coach to stay” approach is what competent coach is going to want to be the replacement.
When you’re being forced to fire coaches to get another year, the writing is on the wall.
I don’t think Johnson “wants” the OL to be as bad as they are. It’s just hard to recruit decent OL athletes to run this offense and Sewak has naked pictures of Mrs. Johnson.I actually think his longtime assistants are probably the absolute best at teaching what he wants*. *What does this tell you about Sewak?
We're going downhill dude. If we don't make a change we will NOT consistently win 6-8 games per year. We're last in the Coastal dude. Dude.
the difference between the noose and the football team? That actually looks like a pic of a typical Tech freshman making fun of our athletics failures.
I'm further depressed now.
I got tired of defending CPJ a few years ago.
I don't want a coach I will have to defend, such as Briles, for his entire career. He would be a huge distraction and another recruiting hurdle.
And going 7-5 every year is not so great, since we have Alcorn and Bowling Green type games every year plus one horrendously bad team in the ACC every year. The problem is that now that really bad ACC team is us. Over his whole time here, CPJ has really only had to beat four decent teams every year to be bowl eligible. We had Duke and Pitt and UVA pencilled in as wins. He padded his win numbers and his rushing stats playing six wimpy teams each and every year. When you start the year with five wins in the bank, it is no great accomplishment going 7-5 or 8-4.We have got to finish at least 7-5 every year. All true....the problem is we don’t start the year with five wins in the bank anymore. We do start with about 4 certain losses. And going 7-5 every year is not so great, since we have Alcorn and Bowling Green type games every year plus one horrendously bad team in the ACC every year.
