Reasons for Optimisim - Post Tulane Eddition

#28 on defense left the field and went straight to the locker room. Might have been heat or a head shot - he seemed very unsteady on his feet.

If white and Isaiah are out for the VPI game we have no chance

I am not an expert on this offense at all, but you would think that CPJ wants to run the TO atleast 60% of the time....we havent run the TO on a consistent basis since Nesbitt from what I can remember. I just dont understand what the reasoning is here. Is he simply playing his hand right now? I dont know. Its just frustrating cause I am not sure what we are doing on offense. It seems like we are letting the defenses do what they want to do, and then adjusting to it, rather than making them adjust to what we are doing.

i think you are living in an alternate reality

I predicted we'd win 37-24, and we won 38-21, yet I am not satisfied that we played as well as I thought we would.

Won going away, scoring the last 24 points. Made a lot of yards on toss sweeps and option pitches. Defense got a 2nd half shutout. Kickoffs into end zone. O-line was better than in Week 1.

I am OK with the offense. Still think we are under talented at the RB spots. I am actually very impressed with the offensive line. Defensive line is scary bad. This defense will be horrible against any good opponent. I think the offense will get better with JT and Byerly. I don't remember our backs being faster than now, but they just don't stay up like they should. Maybe that turf was why I saw so many plays where they slipped or fell down when they could have had much bigger gains.

Charles Perkins looked good blocking and running

Justin Thomas is a playmaker

Nearly improved his play dramatically

Kickoffs unreturnable

Perimeter blocking

Interior defensive line play

As mentioned before, The 3 INTs are impressive. It looks like Tech has really good hands on D. I do think that if the team can minimize stupid mistakes and the D-Line gells, Tech will do very well this season. We won't know what this team can do until after we play VPI though.

We stand a good chance of winning if we can knock the opponent's starting QB out of the game.

I dont get it....CPJ cant run the TO anymore...he is forced to run scripted pitches, draws, dives, etc. How in 6 years has he not developed an offense capable of running the TO?

I saw plenty of TO.

No?

Historically, we call anywhere between 4 and 15 TOs per game, if you pay attention. I haven't charted yesterday, but I bet we called 8 TOs and got over 10 yards on at least three or four of them.

You run what works. Our 2nd drive we ran almost all rocket because they didn't have the leverage to stop it, so why not keep running it?

We got some very big gains off the TO vs Tulane.

My impressions of this game are basically the same as Wofford. We shot ourselves in the foot several times and still covered fairly easily once we got our ducks in a row on offense and defense.

We turned the ball over twice inside our own red zone in the first quarter and a half of play, held them to 3 scores through that stretch, and then shut them out for 2.5 quarters scoring 24 straight. That's not all terrible if we can get the turnovers cleaned up.

We did not look good up front on defense. We did not play well, but won comfortably. If we do not improve, the Applebees in Shreveport will be a pipe dream.

Oh we'll make Shreveport. Without improved defensive play we won't sniff the Peach though. Losing JHD is going to prove to be huge for us I think.

I would like someone to put together a comparison of our defensive stats vs Tulane's opponent last week. Ditto for Wofford.

Watching the replay now, I really like the inclusion of the B back double option with the A motioning across the formation to be a lead blocker on the overload. The blocking scheme is simple, the reads are simple, and it works for 10 yards when the blocks are executed. Plus, if the defense rotates to match personnel, we can also call a pass or a trap out of it.

Halftime adjustments (now just get the game prep to match the adjustments!).
