Recruiting Surprises

I think CPJ believes in the literal meaning of the word "commitment".... and I don't blame him.

Relax. If he signs with us fine, if not so be it. We can't play but one person at a time per QB. Trust the coaches and remember we are dealing with teenagers.

My guess is that CPJ doesn't want any player who isn't truly committed when he says he is. If a player doesn't know the true meaning of commitment, then he could have problems at Tech as well as later in life.

I see your point and somewhat agree with you. But if CPJ doesn't want a recruit that "waivers" on his comitment, why would he recruit Stephen Hill, David Sims, Mike Gilliard after they were already "committed" to other schools? You have to look at it both ways.

That's a good point.

My guess is that Dontae and PJ has s pretty direct conversation about what was going on and the kid made a promise.

Do you think Auburn would have wasted their time if they had not gotten some signal that the Tech deal was crumbling? I wouldn't put it past Mr. Roof to be orchestrating this. He had some of the same kind of tactics against us when he was at Duke, did he not. The whole process sucks. We'll be okay. This is a real loss of a good and possibly great player, but if the fit wasn't right, better to know now.

Either CPJ and DA agreed man-to-man that there would be no more visits or they didn't.

If they did, then I'm with CPJ. Do NOT jerk us around.

If you aren't solid then fine, don't agree to forego other visits. If you are solid and you do agree then don't do it.

O'Leary wouldn't put up with that crap and neither, apparently, will CPJ. I can live with that. It may cost us in the short run but recruits will soon learn that our offer is only as solid as their commitment.

I'm on the fence about this one. On one hand you want to recruit kids that stick to their word and respect your wishes once "committed". On the other hand, do 17-18 year old kids really know what they want? As a person that has experience of a recruiting trip, its F-ing awesome. You are treated like royalty for 36 straight hours with beautiful girls by your side the whole time. I would recommend to any recruit to take all 5 visits, even if they had already made up their mind. You only get 1 chance in your life to do it.
Oh well....the whole situation sucks, but I don't think CPJ would cut off his nose to spite his face. We'll be ok with Josh, Jaybo, Jordan, and Sims. GO JACKETS!

I have no personal knowledge of the situation, but maybe we stopped recruiting other guys because he gave us a "silent commitment". If he did not "commit" to us, maybe we offer that 'ship to another QB or another skill player? The article in the AJC makes it seem like we got a call that he may go to Auburn, and we told him it was time to put up or shut up - commit to us or the offer isn't there any more. Contrast his coach's reaction with that of the kid from Tucker.....it sounds more like we're in the right on this one.

It definitely goes both ways - we've pilfered guys from other programs as well.

From the time I first heard the term "silent commitment" I had the feeling that they were weasel-words for not being solid.

So could we pickup Demond Dennis again? He is no longer committed to Troy. Maybe the academis issues are in place now?

Just speculating :)

I think there is another factor to this. CPJ seems to be a coach that demands a lot of discipline from the players and if (if being the key word) Aycock had agreed not to visit other schools then I can more agree with CPJ on this.

Is there any chance that the AJC doesn't know what it is talking about? Is there a secondary source confirming Aycock's offer being pulled?

I dunno, they interviewed his coach and everything... Seems pretty legit.

This is a major bummer, but what can you do. A man is only as good as his word, and clearly Dontae couldn't keep his. There are other fish in the sea, this will not make or break Tech football. Move on and let him go.

I agree that you don't play around with a scholly offer from Georgia Tech.

I can't imagine what would be so much more attractive playing for Chicklet over at Alabama A&M unless it has something to do with academics. Too much homework at TECH. Easier ride at Awbun.

More wimmin.

but these other guys "commitments" were to other people other than CPJ. there are all sorts of situations why people change their minds.

they broke commitments to other people and for their own reasons. that's between them, the other coaches and CPJ. if CPJ is okay with them, i am too. if he doesn't want someone, he knows more than i do.

this is a situation where a line was drawn by CPJ and it was crossed. what's he supposed to do?
he's not a guy that backs down. who know's whats really going on except CPJ and DA...
....gtland03's response is kinda weird though

we'll see what's up wednesday. cant wait. makes it a little more exciting.
