Recruiting ...

Where did I say that? What I said was..

[ QUOTE ]
If a team like Sou Cal has a bunch of players that everyone else wants, it's pretty easy to say they have a great class. But when you start comparing the majority of teams it just doesn't make sense.

[/ QUOTE ]

It's easy to figure out the top teams. But at some point in the listing it becomes so subjective I don't know how it matters. Are you saying that you believe they can accuratetly predict the difference between the #27 and #35 classes? BTW to my knowledge Tech has never had a top 10 class, is that your measure of success?

I just noticed that FLA has jumped UGA for #2 in recruiting. Does that guarantee four more years of losses for the leghumpers?"

Reading your posts is like watching Jerry Springer

I know it has no value but I do it anyway.

#1. We in no way fit the definition of football factory. It seems like everyone knows what a football factory is except you IMHO.

#2. Recruiting rankings are interesting but essentially useless. There is no championship for them. Oklahoma has had stellar recruiting classes since Stoops got there and average classes before. Did Bob do better with the average classes or the stellar classes? How many times have we outrecruited Carolina since 1996? How many times have we outrecruited Maryland? Or Auburn? Was our best class within 20 spots of Miami's worst over the last 5 years?

#3. I think we need to start up a pool to buy some of you bitter Guses an 'escort'. GT is on the rise. PLEASE try to enjoy the ride up. You are worse than a spoiled child constantly screaming 'are we there yet'. I would be thrilled if your only complaint was that it was taking too long. You are in the back seat second guessing every turn and lane change as if we are about to drive off a cliff that only you can see. Our car sucks, our driver sucks, our navigator sucks, our map sucks, we used the wrong grade of gasoline, we don't have enough people in the car, the car is the wrong color, the car dealer sucks, the temperature is uncomfortable, the seats suck, the route sucks, the radio stations suck, the other drivers are laughing at us, the other drivers pity us, the other drivers are ignoring us, the other drivers don't respect us, cousin Darryl is going to get there first again this year.... You seem to be jealous of the cars ahead of us, the cars beside us, and the ones behind us for crying out loud.

GTCrew that was awesome. I loved the part about driving. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowdown.gif

Re: Reading your posts is like watching Jerry Springer

I hope you are right about GT being on the way up. Between the NCAA's relatively new progress rule that encourages kids to major in the easiest possible curriculum and penalizes real education, and the Hill's change in attitude, I am very worried about GT being able to compete in the future. Despite what the uninformed believe, this staff does a great job of playing the poor hand that they have been dealt, but it is not getting any easier.

We may be nearing the top of the hill. I don\'t

know where the 'top' is. I have many of the same concerns.

But anyone who thinks the sky is falling when we are on schedule to land at worst a 'typical' GT recruiting class, just improved to 5-3 in the toughest conference in the country, and went 1-1 against probably the two best teams in the SEC (at worst two of the top three) just doesn't have legitimate observational capability.

Long term complaints about the Hill or the NCAA or the ACC or even the AA are legitimate concerns. Short term complaints about our talent, our recruits, or our coaches are baseless at this point (not to mention counterproductive).

as far as recruiting and ranking goes, I would love to have a team full of 5 star Bush/Adrian Petersons, Tim Tebow/Staffords, etc. (as we all would) like the consistently top 15 teams get every year. These studs tend to prove their worth more times than not - just look at USC, Texas, Ugag, FLA, UM, etc. for example...they always recruit the best and end up ranked in the top 10 and compete for MNC every year. I think the higher ranked kids for the most part deserve their rankings because they stand out so far above the crowd and are they are much easier to rank their future potential and probable immediate impact at college more so than the kids in the masses that need developing (where ranking them is a crap shoot)...which are the kids that we get. I'll take a class full of Allstar standouts any day vs a class of hopefuls..but we get what we get and so far we have developed them well.

Recruiting question from the aspect of the highly sought after HS quarterback:

First of all, there is no hidden meaning in this question; this is not about RB.
High school players obviously look at the existing and known incoming personnel of the schools they are considering.
For quarterbacks, after they narrow it down to the schools running the system they like, and the right feel for the coaching, which of the following offensive personnel groups do you believe they look at most closely when making their decision: 1) Receivers
2) Offensive Line
3) Running Backs
This question is based on the assumption that a balanced attack is the scheme.

FWIW, this thought occurred when considering how the best WR prospect would react if his school of choice had just gotten a commitment from the #1 RB prospect. Would the WR prospect worry about a reduction in balls thrown his way because of the blue chip running back?

I don't think we will have this "problem" any time soon.

If I'm a QB then I'm looking at the WRs/TEs. I can work around a sub par offensive line, and RB, but I can't make the WR catch the ball.

If I'm a WR and the school just signed a great running back I wouldn't worry, if anything I'd be more apt as thats going to make me more open the 5-10 times a game I get a chance to shine. Now, if there was another top WR committing who is the same style or receiver as I am (such as big tall like CJ, or smaller and stockier over the middle like Bilbo), I may think differently.

Would depend on a TON of other factors though.

And we are supposed to care about Scout? I'm glad we are ranked well, but don't think it means much at all.

I know recruiting rankings are not the only thing that matters, and no offense, but....you consider that (35th) being
ranked well?

well, in the past 4 years we've averaged 57 in recruiting rankings and managed to have a top 25 team, being around 30 is going to put us into the top 10 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugher.gif

Everything is relative. Imagine how exciting it would be for UGA's fanbase to be ranked #35 in class or dignity. Unfortunately, after chanting "Katrina, Katrina" at the LSU fans, a ranking that high is not in the cards this year.

If uga was ranked say 30th, would you believe that recruiting was off, or would you call BS on the experts?

I don't pay for the "experts" opinions so I don't know the names of all the Zig Ziglars, but I believe Scott Kennedy is one of them, right?

I realize that he is probably bilking tons of cash from his subscribers, but wouldn't you think at least one of his underlings would have been snapped up for $300k or so to be a recruiting expert for a football factory.

maybe one of them already has.

35 is a big improvement for us so yeah I think its a "good year" and could get a lot better. UGAg has 25 commits so they will slip a little as others fill out their lists.

I don't really think most of us care about the rankings. Sure we'd love to get top rated Mustain at QB, but who is to say that Garner isn't just as good? Maybe Bennett will step up. Maybe Ingram, Donaldson, Manley. All of those players have the potential to be fine ballplayers.

I know, for instance, Donaldson - our walk on - played at Cass, which traditionally playes second fiddle to the team just down the road - Cartersville. Put the kid on a better team, with a better supporting cast of blockers, runners, and receivers, and he might be a four star QB.

We've got some fine football players on the team. What matters is what kind of coaching and S&C work they get after they get on campus. They are all D1 material.

LOL! You know, I was at that game and I heard nothing of the sort. If it DID happen, I can promise you it is case where an LSU fan heard it from one or two classless idiots and decided to paste it all over the message boards.

Fortnuately, even if I were not there, I'm not stupid enough to actually believe there were a lot of GA fans in the GA dome chanting that to the LSU fans.

It's funny how no Georgia fan can ever recall any of the instances of nasty behavior all the other fan groups report.

It's so extreme that the sensible folks at UGAg formed a special committee to try to deal with the problem, and even the GymDawgs fans are reknowned for their awful behavior, cheering when opposing gymnasts fall.

(Not to mention the obsessed lunatics who come to our board just to make mocking comments.)

You are a UGAg fan so don't underestimate yourself there. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugher.gif

Only kidding, you seem to be a pretty good, but misguided, guy.
