Recruiting

Heard a podcast the other day and the question was: "in the coastal division, who is more likely to surpass their predicted over/under win total? Georgia Tech at 5, Duke at 6, or UNC at 5.5?" Consensus, North Carolina. So people in the CFB world know we have a team, and it's a weak one.

Neat.

Maybe not at first, but in recent years I get the impression that the GPA of our African American athletes is tremendous. Those guys are different than their counterparts at LSU, Louisville, FSU, UGA. Most are focused on education coming in. The "after football" experiences are amazing. Okay, so we don't get Saquon Barkely, we don't need him.
Our recent graduation rates for the team, tell us that the ones we get in at standards above most programs are doing well at Tech. My post was referring to lack of progress from the pool of better players. Minorities overall, much less football players, are not doing well at all with basic metrics such as graduation rate from hs, reading levels, math competency, gpa, etc. Dumbing down to be politically correct was a tragic mistake that served no one well (and we are still at it). What we "need", are the Barkleys of the world to get much more serious about education much sooner in life.

As has been noted that '07 class was a fluke.

How do you know that ? He got fired after that class. He may have turned the corner on recruiting and his future classes may have been that great.

I've always thought Chan was one decent QB away from being a good coach and he had two great ones in that '07 class if I recall.

did you know that Vad Lee and Jordan Luallen were both ranked higher than Steven Threet by 247 sports?

Vad Lee would have been amazing here if the offense was built around his skill set.

We'll be saying the same thing about James Graham in 4 years. CPJ loves trying to pound square pegs into round holes, damn the results!!

Fan of Tech long? I remember the short lived euphoria when we signed Charlie Dudish. Techs recruiting has been down since the mid 60’s.

I met Charlie Dudish whenI was a junior in high school and he was already out of Tech. Super nice guy but I understand Charlie was a bit “wild” while at Tech. I was dating the girl who Charlie eventually married.

Wut. CPJ made significant tweaks for Vad and the result was 7-6. He went back to his offense with JT and we went straight to the Orange Bowl. I still like Vad but if he had been that great, he would've transferred to anotber P5. Sitting a year would have been worth it.

That outperformed those other teams over the last 10 years, and is consistently underrated (for whatever reason) each and every year. It wasn't that long ago that NC was supposed to be winning it all every year as I recall.
