Recruiting

That outperformed those other teams over the last 10 years, and is consistently underrated (for whatever reason) each and every year. It wasn't that long ago that NC was supposed to be winning it all every year as I recall.
Actually it was just three years ago that UNC was 11-1 in the regular season and undefeated in conference play until losing a close game to #1 Clemson in the ACCCG. They have been consistently overrated but that season was pretty good.

How do you know that ? He got fired after that class. He may have turned the corner on recruiting and his future classes may have been that great.

I've always thought Chan was one decent QB away from being a good coach and he had two great ones in that '07 class if I recall.
It’s been posted here many times that ‘07 was an aberration in that there was a ridiculous amount of talent that year coming out of Georgia. I’m glad to give Chan credit for that class, but let’s not make something out of it that it’s not.

Oh right. As if there aren't about 20 ACC and SEC schools within driving distance that aren't competing for all of Georgia's talent. He may very well had turned the corner that year but we'll never know.

I have heard about some of the things it takes to turn the corner. I don't think the GTAA is or ever was clever enough to have gotten away with them.

He may have turned a corner, but the odds are it was an aberration.

Why were his previous classes more the norm ? Did he fall and hit his head which caused him to change tactics in '07 ? Really really nice guy, but a recruiting machine that could overcome our built in limits, he was not.

Chan had to answer for Patrick Nix.

Blind Squirrel finds nut. News at 11. They were favored many years and just could not get it together. Despite having the horses apparently.

Chan had also gotten Colin Peek (who went on to play for Bama) and Steven Threet (who started at Michigan for a spell). Sean Renfree, too, right? Starting to run together...

His choice of OC and subsequent management of the same is what got him the results that will get you canned. Recruiting talent was never his problem. The opposite, in fact.
