Red zone

The goal line fade has little to do with being taller than the DB. It’s about a quick release, body control, and great hands — and being on the same page as the QB. It is a very low percentage play to anyone not named Calvin Johnson.
It sucks if you don't have coordination with the QB, yes, I fully agree with you there. However, that's just something we gotta practice, and luckily we got the bye week here. I remember when I was playing, the QB buyout for practice was 10 makes into the garbage can from the 10 yd. line. That's something we can easily do here. He threw a good one last time, EJ just dropped it.

We didn’t need to call a “fade”; Jenkins had such a size advantage that we could have kept it simple; let Jenkins post up and throw the ball high. We made the catch too difficult for him.

No, all you need is a tall guy that can catch...
There’s plenty of size mismatches in the NCAA and NFL and CBs are nearly always smaller than WR’s or TE’s. It’s a poor percentage play unless you got a star combo, but you could be right & maybe GT is the exception to the rule and we should run it every time. Someone should study it to see if that’s the case. It may just be the edge we’ve been looking for.

A 2-3 inch difference isn't a good enough difference, but almost a foot difference is

Fades are high-arc passes and as much as I love Sims, he can’t throw a high-arc pass so we seriously need to stop calling them.

We need an OL that can control the line of scrimmage when it is critical, like short yardage situations (maybe the OL continues to make huge improvements during this break). We also a need a "3rd and Laskey" type RB who can power run for short yardage; but that will take recruiting. I would also like to see more Dontae Smith in the red zone, I think he operates better in congested areas than our other ball carriers; but I think Dontae either has a minor injury or he is in somebody's dog house.

We keep expecting more Dontae Smith. Honestly, I thought he was the guy too. But Hall is pretty damn good. It's possible we've seen the best that Smith has to offer, and Hall just brings more to the table. Good problem to have, if you ask me.

I think we have adjusted our play calling to get the ball on the edge more and Hall, with his speed, is better suited for that game. Notice that we are also seeing more RPO's run toward the edge and teams are aware of Hall's speed and it seems to be opening the off tackle runs for Sims. It seems to me Sims is running much more effectively since the switch was made to Hall.

1st time- Fake QB sneak, then do the Tebow jump pass to Jenkins or Blackburn, 2nd time- line up in QB sneak and run speed-option, third time- actually do the QB sneak but have Sims jump over the top of the pile, 4th time- qb sneak fake but then toss it back to McCollum on a reverse
