As another perrenial OL who should have won all the awards if only they'd given me the ball and instead pushed the 7 man sled all over the field day after bleary day and languished in the pits with few moments of near glory but at least it made me batsh*t crazy...

Give RB and this new offense and look a chance. Agreed, the OL is the most suspect of an aggressively improving team. I would say pass over run is the greatest need for improvement but a leap overall is what we should expect.

We shall see.

TO HELL WITH THE IRISH!!!

ncjacket: You are wrong in your summation of the past regarding Bilbo's chances and Coach Gailey himself remarked to a booster gathering the winter of '04 that the team was split on who should have been the starter the previous season. The emotional boost shown by the personnel on the offense during the brief moments Bilbo entered the game as a quarterback in '04 says just as much in my opinion.

As for the current starters obvious shortcomings.....how many shortcomings do you need to believe that the development of Garner would be a good thing for the Jackets as a team?

As for the practice reports......reports Reggie's first 2 years praising Reggie was way too often slighted by certain 'reporters' toward making Reggie look better than what the honest truth is. I seen scrimmages both years and know the truth.

The same practice comments above goes for Bennett, do you remember?

They have been much more honest the last two camps in regard to Reggie(and Taylor) but they either neglect to report on or never get to see Garner.

The problem stateline is you've simply picked a player off the roster to champion without having any idea how he's actually performed on the field. Simply saying Garner is the answer because of his high school numbers or rankings is pointless. ...............

I don't see anyone here saying Reggie is a great QB. But simply throwing out names is pointless. Personally I think the coaches are looking for someone to actually take the job away. No one has.

This is the most level headed response I have seen to the very appropriate point made by SLJ.
I agree that calling for a specific backup is an instant way to lose this argument. To call for anyone in particular to replace our three year starter would instantly lead to a bashing of the head coach.

I don't know how Garner or someone else would do if he was the new "man", but I do know that whoever does play QB this year needs to be better equipped to manage the game. Otherwise, it will be just more of the same consistent inconsistency.

Any good to great quarterback can have a poor statistical game or two in a 12 game season, but we need to expect mental composure and team leadership every outing from a 4 year starter.
If RB can finally provide this in 06, he will be remembered favorably because of his last year.
If not, I hope Chan Gailey learns something.
