Reggie Ball: a Tech Man

I do have an issue with us calling a pass play on 1st and goal against NC State in 2005. Reggie or PJ would have walked the ball in.

The pass play wasn't Reggie's call and he hit Calvin in the hands with it.
If we fumbled a run on the goal line you probably would say we shouldve just thrown it to the best WR in the history of the game for an easy TD.

GT was still a legit program while he was here, and his supporting cast overall probably wasn't much better than anything we've seen over the last few years.

IDK about that. Those 03-06 teams had multiple NFL draft picks at RB, an NFL FB, multiple NFL TEs, the GOAT WR, multiple NFL draft pick OL. We haven’t been nearly as talented, outside of RB.

Wasn't Reggie's first game against Auburn? We won that game - BIG upset - and Reggie made some amazing plays to help us win.

Seems like I remember Coach Chan Gailey saying WTTE "That was the worse thing that could have happened to Reggie." I guess because it caused him to see himself as more mature and a better player than he really was, just starting out as a Freshman(?) QB. He became overconfident and didn't work as hard as he should have to improve himself as a football player. Also, seems like there was an issue with him smoking weed???

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate all that RB1 did for GT and appreciate him as true Tech man. Just recounting some of my memories from that time.

That doesn’t sound like recounting memories or appreciating him as a true Tech man when you say things like he was smoking weed and didn’t work hard enough in a thread about appreciating him as a Tech man. It sounds more like ööööting on him with the cover of “I still appreciate him.”

If we fumbled? Dude, PJ wasn't gonna fumble. You don't pass from the two yard line on first down with a timeout in your pocket.

And when we called the timeout BEFORE FIRST DOWN, I turned to my buddy Eric and said, verbatim "Goddammit, we are gonna pass the ööööing ball to Calvin"
WWCPJD?

Yea, and the goat wasn’t going to drop a game winner that hit him it the hands. öööö happens. Hindsight is 20/20.

My son was going through recruitment when Reggie was at Tech and was invited to Gailey’s prospect camp. As we toured the facilities the high school kids were amazed at the charts of the top performers. Reggie was at or near the top in every category - bench & squats and dead lift, number of reps, as well as shuttle and vertical leap. OL Coach Dee told our group Ball was the hardest working football player in the offseason he had ever seen - that he out lifted the O-line without exception.

Reggie had one heckuva career at Tech. Some highs and lows but I always am reminded of the night before my last exam at Tech when I think of Mr. Ball. All my tough exams were done and I had one last easy one for a class I don't even remember so I wasn't taking it that seriously and went out to Rocky with some friends for some beers.

And what do you know, who's sitting at the table behind us.....that's right...

Taylor Bennett. Chatted briefly, he was telling us how much he missed Atlanta after transferring to LA Tech and we should enjoy it, took some shots with him and carried on.

Then probably an hour later I see my buddy talking to some dude in a hoodie with a big fro by the bar. After a double take guess who it is...Reggie Ball. Chat him up take some shots with him and carry on. A memorable night for ending my Tech stint.

that one was on calvin -reggie deserved no blame

Reggie won some huge games - beat Auburn twice, a #3 UM team, a good NCState team at their place, Clemson miracle, a blowout bowl win. He had some huge wins and had he beat UGA just one, his legacy would be more appreciated. Would appear to be a good guy - thats great!!!!!!

Reggie Ball was an intense competitor. He had mediocre OCs. If he played under Fridge, he would have made him a top 10 QB contender with Calvin Johnson to throw to, behind a really good O-Line and solid backfield.
Actually, my thought was always that he should have played for Paul Johnson. Reggie would have been an absolute beast as a TO QB for Coach Johnson.

I travelled out to Provo to see his first game as a Jacket.
My wife & I had flown to Hawaii for a wedding, landing the afternoon of that game. I had already warned her that we were watching the Tech/BYU game when we got there, and I honestly didn't care what we had to do to make that happen.

Long story short, the hotel didn't have it and we eventually found an Applebee's with the game on. We sat at the bar and watched the entire game. When she started complaining in the 2nd half about how long it was taking, I tossed her the keys to the car and said, "Come back and get me then. I'll call when the game is over but I warned you before you booked the flights for today that this was going to happen." Once I said that, she didn't mention leaving until the game was over again.

No. That was Reggie's first HOME game but his second overall game. His first college game was an away game at BYU.

Outlifted the OL?
Hard to believe
