Re: Rehash of Braine, Mac, Roof, O\'Brien & Gailey
beeware,
culb highlighted the thoughts as to why Stanford was disinterested to play a GT team that did not live up to the expectations. Stanford was #9 in the country and deserved a much better bowl than the Seattle Bowl. BTW, GT has been disinterested in bowl games before--'00 Gator Bowl vs. Miami springs to mind.
If anything, the credit should be given to the players for their performance. Coach Mac stated that he merely kept the team loose (he did do a good job of changing up the practice schedule a bit to let the players be a bit looser) and let his assistants handle the game chores. Our team's performance included a good goal line stand and great offensive playcalling by O'brien. You did want to credit the players, right?
Even if Coach Mac was the one to orchestrate the ENTIRE gameplan (which he did not), then why would you want to turn over the reins of a program to him on the basis of one game? If you do not like Gailey personally, then that is fine. But to look at his qualifications as a coach versus those of Coach Mac and to not conclude that he is more qualified is silly. I don't know whether or not Gailey will be able to maintain or build upon the foundation that O'leary laid, but he is the most qualified of the candidates that were interviewed for the job.
