Richt and the future....

It's more than secondary. The BOR provide net negative value to the State based on their decisions of which programs to approve and deny.

What do you expect when you've got one that sits (sat?) on the board despite having an open relationship with a former gymnastics coach while still remaining married and also having his son appointed to the uga athletic board. I'm sure all of his calls are going to be made in the way of advancing education.

It's not just losing to us that would get him canned. It would mean losing to The Worst Georgia Tech Team In Twenty Years. They wouldn't be able to NOT fire the guy.

Are we really discussing this like it's a possibility?

Why isn't it possible? We've kept it close with much better teams this year. If we win the turnover battle, we win the game.

My wife went to uga, she's rooting for Tech tomorrow. She wants Richt Cannes. :naughty:

I hear Richt is out, no matter the outcome tomorrow. Too many prominent decision makers in Athens have already turned on him. This is going to happen.

Divorce her.

They just extended him to 2019 at the start of this season and his salary jumped to $4 MM / year.

Why wouldn't they try to wait it out 1-2 more seasons if he beats Tech? It's going to be difficult to pay Saban money (which is what they'll have to pay with this many open coaching slots to get someone more successful than Richt) while floating $4MM to a previous coach.

Because it's uga and they suck at math?

Heard a rumor today. Take it for what it's worth, as I have a hard time believing it. Friend of a relative, supposed "insider", friends with someone at ESPN. Apparently the story is that Richt is going to resign on Monday, Kirby Smart is already locked in to replace him, and Eason is signed up to stick with UGA. Again, take it for what it's worth, but this person seemed pretty darn convinced.

Too many pieces involved to keep it totally quiet. And I haven't heard that rumor anywhere else.

But I hope it's true. I hope they hire an unproven assistant with no HC experience. Muschamp 2.0.

These are the type of posts I come to Stigtalk for

So how do you convince him to walk away from $16 MM guaranteed?

only if you give him good terms if he resigns, like a lump sum now instead yearly payments, and not make it conditional on a new job, etc etc

often 'resignations' are basically cutting a deal

Makes sense if he thinks he can get a similar contract with similar terms.
