Don't understand the animosity for this thread. Though as an aside, to the OP, I believe multiple coaches have given this kind of money to their schools.

I remember that Bobby Crimmins gave a significant amount to GT (not 1 million, but still), and Joe Paterno several million to Penn State.

Moreover, you have to remember that coaching salaries have only reached atmospheric levels in the past couple of decades.

It's not hard to believe that a wealthy person would give a size able chunk of their income to charity. If you're a football coach, you might give all of those charity contributions to your university.
