Rivals reporting a commitment...

Re: More info....

ESPN's #15 rated FB for the 2006 class. Some comments:

"Bray is a tough, aggressive, overachieving type. Plays extremely hard and you really like his motor. He is a throwback player. He excels as a linebacker in high school, but lacks the speed and athleticism to play linebacker in college. Is at his best as an isolation blocker and short yardage ball carrier."

Athletic ability and speed are question marks.

Re: More info....

Did he have any other offers? I saw his other schools were Wake, E. Carolina, C. Carolina and James Madison hopefully he is a real sleeper. I just don't know about these kids with little or no offers from other programs in the BCS conferences, but time will tell.

That's a slippery slope. There is obviously something there or we would not have offered. Besides, pure fullbacks don't get the same interest as other backs. I would wager that the smaller schools offered him as an LB, and fullback.

Welcome aboard Trevor!

Re: More info....

Heard that VT has also been talking with the young man recently. He's not an unknown.

ESPN\'s #16 rated FB is a \'real sleeper\'...

Now those are some high standards!

I sense sarcasm here. I hope so.
If VT was talking to him, was it because GT has offered? I doubt it.

looks like we are robbing all of the small schools with this class i just hope and pray that we will get atleast a few bigtime players to sway this way

I know you guys don't want to hear it but I respect Grobe's opinion of a player especially when the player is a key piece of the running game.

Mike Cox

I give Chan the benefit of the doubt on guys like this. Mike Cox wasn't highly recruited and he's the best fullback we've had in a while. I think this guy is in the mold of Cox. Vance Walker is another guy who didn't have a bunch of stars and looks like he'll be a stud for us for the next 3 years. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blue.gif

Re: Mike Cox

For the most part, I think these recruiting gurus are running one of the greatest scams of all time.
Of course there will be kids at big HS programs that play other big HS programs that are easier to rate, but how can these "experts" realistically evaluate talent consistently at small time high school games?

Vertical jump, 40 yard dash times, and bench press of a 17 year old are just as suspect. The gurus are making a killing on pay per view internet and magazine sales.

But he did have a VT offer, as far as this commitment is concern I wouldn't judge him too harshly considering fullbacks are the hardest players to find, it just bothers me that a lot of kids we offer don't have offers from other BCS conference teams, they can't all turn out to be diamonds in the rough?

But he did have a VT offer,

Only after he accepted an offer from GT.

Re: Mike Cox

I think it is most important to have star recruits in the speed positions, particularly DB and WR. You can't teach speed, and speed never has a bad game. When we play a team with more speed than we have, that is when we get blown out if we are having a bad game and lose containment.

True, but that shows a big program still wanted him, we have had kids whose signatures were never rivaled by big BCS conference teams.

[/ QUOTE ] I guess my point is we haven't had a chance to see who else is interested/willing to offer this guy since there's so little information on him.

Even the info between the different recruiting sites is very inconsistent. #15 FB on ESPN is very solid, he wasn't in Scout.com's database, Rivals had a profile but little else

Re: Mike Cox

Contact, don't you think the coaches have all the information they need to make an offer. i highly doubt they are throwing scholly's to just anyone.

[/ QUOTE ]I'm on your side, fridgemover. I've seen enough to know that Gailey & staff are very good at identifying talent and placing them in the right position.

I don't doubt that but it's always good to see that your early scholarship choices are validated by offers from powerhouse teams who usually take blue chippers, as it did with Anthony Barnes, Daryl Richard, CJ, Michael Johnson, Kenny Scott etc etc.
