Rivals reporting a commitment...

Re: Mike Cox

Has to be priority number one heading into the offseason, I think #2 should be the strenght and conditioning of the line, #3 replacing 3/4 of the secondary.

1) OC - the only way that will be addressed is to remove Gailey. He calls the plays - I don't foresee that changing.
2) strength and conditioning of the OL - certainly a need. Based on numbers and experience, our OL will be a team strength next year
3) replacing 3/4 of the secondary. We're keeping the best player of the 4 (Scott). Putting Lewis on the field over Davis will be an improvement. Replacing Reis leadership and Landry's toughness will be the issues, IMO. There should be plenty of guys to choose from for the S and Nickel corner positions - Roberson, DJ Jones, Tony Clark, Jahi Word-Daniels, Gaston, Blackwood.

Re: Mike Cox

Isn't there rumor from RM that that will surely change by next season. If we get 7-8 wins this season I am willing to see what improvements come from that.

Re: Mike Cox

Not a rumor, all i'm saying is that a lot of people will make sure this is addressed in the off season. Will there be a change I don't know but as my own opinion i can't see a contract extension if a change isn't made.

I think our S&C football coach is actually pretty darn good. Didn't we steal him away from Tenn? I know that Gardner has gotten a lot bigger, and its all muscle since he got here... approx 40 lbs. I also know a student trainer or two and they say that he's a good one and works the kids the right way.

The problem with the OL is that you hardly ever see Fr and So starting on the line, they just aren't big enough yet, and thats where the issue comes. Talent can only get you so far with a 60# difference.

Another recruit stolen

Vance Walker could have been at CCU and so could this kid.

I guess Fisher DeBerry didn't offer.

Re: Mike Cox

I have heard from a very credible source that CCG did make an offer to an OC last year but things did not work out.
I do not know who and this person did not want to tell,But he was a recoginizeable name, according to my source.
Since I heard about it I have been working hard to find out who and why it fell through.

Re: Mike Cox

My feeling was the same.Although he would not say. I do agree if you're going to hire an OC it should be one you want not just a hire to please everyone.

Re: Mike Cox

Could very well be that since he didn't get who he wanted he decided to keep the play calling himself another year. Interesting to see what happens at TN now. If Cutcliffe doesn't take that job wonder if we see him in ATL next year?

It won't be as OC.

Re: Mike Cox

We had our shot. I don't believe he goes to UT unless it's as HC and IMO he's not the Guy they would go after.I mean why would he and if he wanted a shot at the GT job he would have taken the OC position.
I will say this he is an OC canidate that would have fit in the Gailey offensive Philosophy.

For what he accomplished at Ole Miss, I certainly don't blame him for having a top job in his sights. I would not want David to come here for a brief OC stint, while looking over his shoulder for a HC job.

Re: Mike Cox

The story (or theory) is that he didn't take the Tech job because Weis offered him the ND spot. More prestigous, etc. But then his heart condition precluded him from coaching anywhere. He's back on his feet and ready to go now so he may be in the market. While he's been a HC, OC is a step above nothing.

Re: Mike Cox

Well one thing for sure He's proven his worth at UT. I for one think Ole Miss is a tough place to coach and he did a good job there. There are to many folks that simply don't understand that the situation changes at every school and for different reasons. GT is, IMO the most difficult Coaching job in CF, but OM for other reasons is also tough.

What's different about his heart condition now since he's considering going back to UT? Are their fans less demanding than NDs?

There was something more to him leaving ND than a heart condition.
