Roddy Jones RIPS GT

Happier times indeed. It was so easy to imbibe on the Juice and get caught up in all the ATL/404/#theculture/Waffle House hype. We were ready the embrace our destiny as Atlanta’s team thinking the program finally had the full backing of the Institute to take that next big step to national prominence.

Yeah, a lot of that stuff sounded “lame but OK if it works” at the time. It was always cringey to me but I was willing to get on board if it produced something good, much like “All the Way Turned Up” in 2009.

Who was that rednecky ex-punter on ESPN that was hyping the sleeping giant that Collins was working on here? I wonder what he thinks about the state of things now.

Sometime in the last two years someone posted a “my name is Geoff” 22 jump street meme and it’s still a HoF post, even if it’s lost to the sands of time.

Can’t remember his name either but I do recall the “sleeping giant” comment.

Pat McAfee. He’s the guy now on college Gameday dressed like an 80s Miami drug dealer

Hey maybe Tommy Luginbill is looking for a job? He would be a great successor to Collins, no?:crapstorm:

I would like to see several players and ex-coaches involved in the AD and Head coach selection processes (assuming we ever get to that point). Roddy, Calvin, Joe and Swilling and our own Mover would be great player choices. Curry, Ross, O'Leary, Friedgen and Johnson would be the ex-coach options. If Homer Rice is up to it we should seek his input,

Umm. That’s sort of what got us where we are.

We've come a long way from Roddy hosting Waffle House Wednesdays. Happier times....

To be perfectly honest, that Waffle House interview was the first time I doubted. The emphasis CGC put on "Morpheus" and his graphics made me wonder. What about hiring a good staff?

I buried it under optimism because CGC was a good salesman. Oy, did I swallow the hook.

I wonder how he feels now. That is surprising given their coaching and practice approaches are diametrically opposite.

Yeah, but Collins worked for him at both GT and UCF. TStan can't make this next hire because all he knows are Tech and UCF guys.

O'Leary was a great coach for us in his day, but in retrospect, maybe that last year at UCF should have been a red flag for us. Stansbury and Key may have had a hand in that 0-12 season ...

Holy crap. And now the end may come at the hands of UCF, as well.

You are guilty of what everyone who falls for a con is guilty of. You pre-believe what the con artist is saying. He’s repeating what is already in your head. Its a gift to know how to do that and Collins has that goefft. And we are all going to pay for it.

He’s got a lot of numbers wrong (Lewis’s record and tenure, how many games Collins has won, the fact that the ND shutout was on the road), which is frustrating, but his assessment is still spot-on.
