Role of a head coach…just my opinion

Who is the straw that stirs the drink at Coastal? Is it Chadwell coaching ability or is it McCall's ability at QB? Is McCall's play a direct translation of Chadwell and the offensive staff?

Thankfully there are smarter people than me in charge of making those calls for us.
They have been hammered by injuries this year. Even McCall seems doubtful for this weekend against JMU.

All of which is why I said to invoke Joe Ham and Fridge. Very few Tech fans don’t like Joe and Fridge despite Fridge having run an offense that was heavy on option based principles. I do t think anyone cares about running an offense that is heavy on option principles. The divisiveness problem started when option became our complete identity and people saw that as translating into lesser recruiting.

This….Fridge’s offense was one of the most complex and brilliant offenses I’ve ever seen. It takes tremendous coordination to intermix the multiple looks…pro-style, I-formation, wishbone, split backs, option, gun…basically every formation you could think of at the time….it was so fun to watch.

While I love option principles and still feel it has a place in today’s game, the rules are so slanted towards the passing game that stretching the field should be a priority. Don’t care how you do it, but would be leaving money on the table if RPO and vertical passing concepts are not in the playbook.

Literally nothing about that thread shows any similarity to Paul Johnson’s wish bone other than the word “option” on some of the plays. All these plays are so complex, blocking schemes are amazing, and the defense looks utterly fooled on every play.

It’s moot point, but there is plenty of similarity in the offenses. Chadwell runs his O from the pistol, but the read concepts and attack strategies are very common. He does have some better passing concepts, but the underlying principles are very similar….complex read/option run game setting up explosive passing plays.

Yeah the plays will be complex and amazing until we hear “oh we gotta simplify the playbook for the players, they’re having a hard time executing.” I’ve watched this movie before. Let me guess we’re also going back to bad defense and övy ööö recruiting.
I expect our recruits to be smarter than Coastal's recruits in addition to being better athletes. Our players should be smarter than their opponents in every game.

There is no reason the defensive staff cannot be retained.

I will be happy with Chadwell or Key. They are both better than the other realistic options.

He's had a level of success at Costal that Collins never achieved at Temple. Most fans were excited about Collins because he was going to "lead us into the 21st century on offense" while over looking his blatant shortcomings. I'd MUCH rather have a Chadwell, whos built a program from nothing into multiple top 25 finishes, than a BoB. Fun Fact, Coastal ranks 40th in passing yards per game (ahead of 11 ACC teams and ND)

So would several of those "11 ACC teams" if they had Coastal's schedule.

I'm good with an option style offense, as long as when chadwell leaves we're not facing "the most significant rebuild in history" again and have undersized o-line that only knows how to chop block.
So we'd better not use ööööing Ringling Bros. as our candidate pool after Chadwell. Easy.

Recruiting wise:
Light years behind Clemson, uga, ND
Well behind unc, miami, fsu (two of whom will literally offer no show classes)
Behind VT
On par with ncst, uva, pitt, louisville
Ahead of Cuse, BC, Wake, Duke
Can’t be don’t

I already expect that but, given our numerous penalties (which Key seems to have gotten a bit of a handle on), I don't see us being much smarter than anyone else.

Just win baby. I want stronger and faster players than the other team that are smart enough to run whatever plays we need them to run. We get literally no pats on the back from anyone other than ourselves for holding on to this outdated idea that players are something other than students in name only. Recruit the best players we can get and make every effort to systematically demolish hurdles that stop us, academic or otherwise We have to do this if we are going to stay relevant.

Yeah that’s another Tech bias. Our players have to take calculus so they must be smart enough to memorize the playbook and execute better. It does not translate.

GoJackets.com says an agreement has been made for the next Georgia tech head coach, that’s really all they said but doesn’t sound like (or at least i don’t think it sounds like) key will be the guy
If true, that's a pretty big scoop that is still staying very quiet.

No, I’m telling y’all, watch this. The blocking is so precise, and it looks amazing, especially better than our guys just running around aimlessly. The tight end trap blocks, the misdirections, the slip routes. It’s all amazing. Granted Coastal has a bad defense, it’s better than where it was pre Jamey.

Yeah, all option plays, even ones UCLA, Ohio State, and even Alabama, at the root, are going to have the same base. It’s what you do with your blocking scheme that affects the play, and Coastals blocking schemes are amazing to watch.

All I can see is Tenuta yelling at some guy in practice “if you think, you stink “

watch what?

Biggest lie ever told in Georgia Tech community is we can’t recruit, we gotta outsmart them. Y’all are fascinated with gimmick offenses. Nobody ööööing realizes most of our schedule is bullshit ACC teams with similar academic background, and we can out recruit them. Having a worse season than Wake Forest doesn’t mean we need a gimmick offense but of course that’s what most of you idiots want. This will be the final nail in the coffin for Georgia Tech if Chadwell is hired.
1) What makes Chadwell’s offense a “gimmick” other than you say it is? Everything is called a gimmick at some point until it works well enough that it becomes mainstream. I’d much rather be on the innovative side than be behind the curve.

2) I don’t give a flying öööö what kind of offense we run if we win games. Watching Chip Long’s offense is like watching paint dry, but if we able to win games at GT, I’d be his biggest fan. Chadwell’s offense has been dominant at every level he’s been at. I’d rather jump on this opportunity than watch somebody else snap him up while we’re playing boring, uncreative Gaileyball.

Coastal has a bad defense because of the same reason CPJ always had a bad defense. The delta between points for and points against per game is 4.7 in 10 games where they won 9 games. They’re out scoring their opponents in shootouts.

McCall got injured a couple weeks ago and is done for at least the regular season. Chadwell has handled it a lot like we did the last game, alternating QBs who are stronger in either passing or rushing. They keep winning, despite losing 16 starters from last season and having their star QB go down. Sure, they’re beating G5 teams, but they’re doing it with G5 players. 31-4 over the last 3 years is just incredible.

I’m not sure how much more some people want from him.

1) You’re not gonna reinvent football. Get real.
2) How many successful G5 coaches turned into successful P5 coaches? The number is a lot lower than you think. It doesn’t translate.
