Roof and LSU

Yeah I've applied for jobs I wasn't qualified for as well.

That's a little disappointing. CRT talked about leaving Penn St to come here bc it was coming 'home'.

Also a little surprised he was having that conversation just a few days after our D gave up some records in the OB.

Why? When Roof came back to Tech, he honestly pictured himself as O'Leary coming home to replace Bill Lewis because he thought PJ was floundering. Then PJ went on to have the 2014 season and a Roof realized his instincts were very wrong.

Well of course they were wrong. Even if PJ didn't have success, no way GT was going to hire a previously failed college head coach.

It can be helpful if you're wanting to renegotiate your contract to have another offer in hand.

Many people were saying here, in 2013, to just fire CPJ and promote Roof. But is there any evidence that is what was really going through Roof's mind when he took the job? I saw "coming home" as coachspeak, both for the media and recruits. I knew if somebody offered double the money, then of course he could also leave home.

It's also not clear that Roof is not qualified for the LSU DC job. He hasn't exactly had 90's FSU talent to work with while he's been here. Auburn and Penn State were good defenses statistically. In Auburn's case, after adjusting for how quickly Can Newton scored and how quickly Malzahn ran that offense.

IMO Roof is pretty mediocre as a DC. His defenses haven't been anything special anywhere he's been. They also haven't been bad since his first stint at GT.
