“As we have previously reported on JOL, last year’s starting center Mikey Minihan has retired after graduating and freshman Ryan Spiers has received a medical and is working with the team as a student assistant. Sources also confirmed that offensive lineman Nick Pendley and defensive end Albany Casey are no longer with the team as well both due to injuries that ended their careers with medicals.”

3 fewer OL than we thought we had. Hope we can get a few guys from the portal and some younger guys are ready to be on the 2 deep

Quote from the story:
" With so many new faces on the staff, Collins said the holdover assistants brought the new coaches out to the practice fields on Wednesday for a run-through on how practice typically works. "

The question is who was showing who how a practice typically works lol

Does anyone know how many scholarship players we have now? I'm assuming much less than 85. Given how many players are in the portal I guess we can increase the roster before fall.

73 so you think we’d be very very aggressive in the portal. If you assume we lose 5-8 more through some form of attrition, that means we could add 15-20 transfers before the season starts. Really weird spot to be in.

I don't think that 73 is counting the 2022 non-early enrollees, is it? So, we wouldn't be adding that many transfers, though we will certainly add several more.

Including incoming freshmen not here yet my count is 75.

I think 73 is including incoming freshmen. We have plenty of room but I can see us not having a full 85 or either taking a bunch of 1 year grad transfer type guys that will clear out and leave us plenty of room for next year. We haven't been able to sign a full class now for 2 years due to Covid holdover. We should be able to next year.

This is inexcusable. Self induced probation. Always sign 25, make the numbers work from there. The whole ACC seems to undersign compared to the SEC.

You do realize how many people would have to be basically forced out per year for this?

If the portal continues like it is, that won’t be an issue. If it settles down, then I agree with you completely. The long term effects of the transfer portal are still too unknown though. I’d be fine with a few 1 year grad transfers just to give some warm bodies.

We aren’t forcing people out, homie. We are begging our current players to stay
This year yes. Last 2 cycles we weren't though and were very limited on spots. Covid has really screwed things up with the 85 hard cap for everybody. We had more transfers out this year than expected plus some leaving to try for NFL that weren't expected is why our number is so low right now. Also, you can't over-sign your recruiting class because you "expect" people to leave. Your scholarship roster can never be over 85. I mean you can over sign but then if you don't have enough guys leave you have to start kicking folks off the team. But then you're in the same boat again next year. Huge freshman/sophomore classes and not many graduating to make room so you'd have to do the same again. Covid made things bad but now the transfer portal has made it a complete öööö-show. They need to set windows where folks can enter the portal. 3 would be plenty, one at end of each semester for a week or two. Don't let folks just up and jump in whenever they want because then you have a situation like we do now. We expected to have 78-80 at end of spring with few spots for some post-spring transfers. We couldnt sign 5-7 more HS guys just because we "thought" we'd have room.

Lol, a lot of excuses. You should apply for the head coaching gig when it opens up in a few months—you’d be good at it.
