Rueben Houston graduated....

glad he graduated, but that felon is a bad apple and caused embarrassment to our program. good riddance, if you ask me.

You mind waiting until he's convicted of something before you call him a felon? This pretty much sums up your attitude about everything as far as I'm concerned.

lol...federal drug charges. IF he isn't convicted, I'll issue an apology here. Regardless, he's been an embarassment nationally for us bc of the charges. You'll deny that , too, I guess.

I will throw my hat 3/4th in. An indictment on a Fed drug charge on a Tech player is not in any way good for Ga. Tech.

Maybe I am ancient school, but scholarship players have a responsibility to live up to, to advance the reputation of Ga. Tech. It's not the other way around.

As I vaguely brushed on in an earlier post on this topic: Did Reuben already have enough credits to graduate last year? If so, I wish he would have gone thru the ceremony before this embarrassment was laid at Tech's feet.

If he didn't, that's another question altogether.

yeah, he sat next to and went just before my daughter who also graduated in Mgt.

BTW, we went to a rocking graduation party at CJ's Landing that night. Besirivich, Hugh Reilly, Eric Henderson were part of the honorees. Joe Anoai was there and Reggie and Calvin showed up just before the party was over. The band was Grapevine from Macon...

Yes, it was embarrassing.

I just pray to God I never have the force of the Federal Govt. coming against me. All too often people forget who is the employer and who is the worker.

I love people with their holier than thou attitude. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

This is two mornings in a row

I've logged onto Stingtalk and seen your posts slamming our student-athletes. Yesterday's shot at Reggie was appropo of nothing and unrelated to any other post in the thread. Today you're flying in the face of "innocent until proven guilty" because you're embarrassed???

Give it a rest man. You're bumming me out.

Well there was the story when he was arrested, which was embarrasing to everyone. Then when he was reinstated there were stories about the judge interferring with college athletics. But the bottom line so far is that he's been convicted of nothing and the more that seems to come out the more questionable the case against him appears to be. If nothing else he's guilty of bad judgement and getting involved with people he shouldn't have. But whether he's guilty of a felony has yet to be decided.

People who make judgements and think their you know what doesn't stink. Passing judgement on people they've never met or know nothing about except what they've read in the paper. I've met Reuben. He knows he made a bad decision but I wouldn't be surprised if he is cleared of the charges. I commend him for getting his degree. If you want to blast student athletes take it somewhere else.

all student athletes that get in trouble with the law or just ours are exempt from criticism? just curious what the difference is.

Well, there's a difference in criticizing someone and calling them a felon, especially when they haven't had their day in court yet. Overall there is an unwritten rule about calling out our SAs. There are different opinions about what's okay for athletes at other schools, but most feel like our players should be treated better.

I was there!! My nephew graduated.
It was a very good time...

BTW, some of the band members were military just back from Iraq...one of the tamborine bangers was a 2-star general - talked to them during a break...

you're so right. We should always talk nicely about a GT athlete who gets involved with the law breaking and creates headlines like these for our school. Your politically correct world must be an interesting place to live in.

houston's felony charge

First, did you read the article you linked? It suggests that there's nothing to tie the school to and the biggest issue is a judge inserting himself in what should be a disciplinary problem. Secondly, no one is trying to whitewash anything, but the FACT is Reuben hasn't been convicted of anything. What if he gets off? What if they decide there is no evidence to prove any conspiracy? Why trash a SA before the courts hand down a decision?

If you want to be a jerk about everything that's your prerogative. And it's everyone else's prerogative to make judgements about you and let you know what they are.

you're right.. I'm sure this was all a big mistake and he is lilly white and those headlines had nothing to do with Houston and the image it has already bestowed upon GT, like it or not, trial or not. He may get off on a lesser charge, he may not.... He has created embarrassment to GT which you don't care to acknowledge. Your world has got to be enterainting to live in.
