I met an Omaha Beach D-Day survivor about 10yrs ago. That was a very humbling experience.

I met a general from the Tuskegee Airmen a few years ago at the Waffle House in Orlando.

That was awesome.

Yes, he did. He was Lt. over a bomb disposal unit and had to search caves disarming the traps the Japanese had set. Saved a squad at one point, taking out 2 hidden enemy by himself in a cave. He was a Tech man. God bless him. I have his memoirs. All I can say is, "Wow! Semper Fi!"

Thanks--They talk about DDay but the Pacific Island war was TERRIBLE in every way.AS close to hell as you would ever get here.

I'm re-watching HBO's miniseries, The Pacific (on Netflix).
Brutal, just brutal.

My dad was in one of the early waves at Normandy's Utah Beach, then on to the Huertgen Forest, and Bastogne,in time for Europe's coldest winter in 100 years. Each theater had its own version of hell,tropical heat in the Pacific, near-Arctic cold in Europe.
