If they don't fit, the players can leave anytime they want. They don't need a coach to force them out.

It isn't pro football, but it isn't sandlot either. Millions of dollars flow through our program and we are second or third tier most of the time. If it is all about the players, then we need to get players. I don't advocate running kids off, but we have to change our tactics to a certain degree. We can afford to have half a dozen non performers for a year, but after that we have got to be more selective--and make ourselves more attractive. Winning will solve all of that.

I won't get into name calling.
I simply respectfully disagree, CFB in 2018 is not played the way you want it to be played
The players understand that more than you do, they wouldn't be shocked if the new HC nudged them along if they don't fit his system
Posters like you loved it when CPJ came in with big brass cajones and proclaimed, "don't want him. don't need him, doesn't fit the system", yet you don't want to allow Coach G the same leeway
I'd venture a guess that no player, especially the younger ones want to practice & train for P5 CFB for 3 yrs. with little to no chance to play

And FYI, CPJ said the whole "don't want him, don't need him etc." about a pro style QB, Sean Renfree, that decommitted after CPJ was hired. He wasn't run off; he decommitted because he wasn't an option QB. So don't try and spin that CPJ quote as support for the garbage you're spewing.

Renfree and his Dad wanted to meet with CPJ to see where he stood and was given the cold shoulder by CPJ, en route to him decommitting, quickly followed by the don't want him, etc
I'm just saying give Coach G the same leeway to shape his roster as he see fits
Signing players that report in Jan isn't oversigning because they are back counted vs. empty schollies this yr, assuming some guys leave and don't think they fit what Coach G wants to do
Players have left GT FB with depth issues while pursuing Comic Book Illustration, NASCAR tire changing and God knows what else, shouldn't there by a middle ground where our HC gets his roster his way as quickly as possible?
We all knew this day was gonna come where the GTAA would pay a steep price for CPJ's poor roster mgmt skills
Tons of A-Backs on scholly that cannot play Slot-WR at the P5 level
Zero OLs that are tall with long arms for zone blocking schemes and pass blocking reqd in modern P5 CFB
Zero WRs that have P5 talent
Zero TEs.....................in the entire bldg that is
Zero 1-cut RBs tailor made for modern Single-Back offenses used in modern P5 CFB
Our defense, the Front-7 is in shambles, OLBs trying to play DE, Safeties trying to play OLB
I could go on, but just because we have schollies filled with great kids that try hard, doesn't mean that our Roster is in good shape and can transition to what Coach G wants
In fact this might be the most unproven GT FB roster since the Curry years

That's not what you are saying at all.
You do realize that you wrote down what you were saying, right? Like, we can see what you wrote. We can go back and look and see that you are saying that Collins should be able to pull scholarships, which is vastly different than telling recruits that they won't play a bunch under the system. It's even really easy to go quote it. Like this:

This is sting talk. Name calling and insulting your mother is half the fun.
Nudging is fine, but in your post you explicitly advocated cutting kids. I want a program where academics and degrees matter because 95% of these kids are not going to make the NFL.
I am excited about Collins because I think he can increase that NFL player ratio, but the rest of the team deserves their education in exchange for their hard work and not to be run out of town.

I think I can write some true things that both "sides" of the debate can agree are factually accurate.
1. Our roster management needs work. We have players built for one system, both before and after their coming onto campus. OL are a certain size, for example, which comes into play during the recruitment as well as during the weight training regimens while here.
2. We need a roster suited for a different system, the system we are planning on running from here on out. You can argue that we should lock ourselves into the existing system and never change, but that is not what is going to actually happen.
3. Some of this roster management will involve modifying existing players to fit the new scheme. Some of this can be installed in one spring, taking advantage of a player's youth background and transferable skills. Some will take years of body modification. OL changing size, for example.
4. Some of this roster management will involve different faces on campus. I think a lot of it will. However, there are limits to the speed this process will work. We cannot (and should not) turn over all 85 ship players in one year. Not all need it, of course, but we are going to spend years tweaking and modifying our roster to optimize it for what we will be doing moving forward.
5. CGC is on record saying he wants to do the best thing for each kid, and I take him at his word. Not only is it fair, not only is it the right thing to do, but it is part of the culture we are installing that will hopefully reap dividends. (I know some of you will read this as criticism of our outgoing coach, which it is not. CPJ had a culture built that he believed was the best for what he was trying to do. CGC will build a culture based on what he believes is the best for what he will try to do. The two cultures have a lot of overlap and a lot of divergence. Nature of the beast.) CGC needs to install his culture, and one element of that culture is to convince the kids he will always do what is best for them.
6. For the upcoming system we have over-abundances at some positions and shortages in other positions. Also, not all the players at the positions where we have too many players are the right players. We can have too many rb's while not having the rb's we need.

A lot of this is going to take care of itself, so any hand-wringing is unnecessary.
Your football knowledge must be amazing if you can determine which A backs can’t play slot, particularly since most haven’t really seen the field yet and I’m assuming you don’t go to practice as one example. Collins will handle the roster as he sees fit but one thing I can tell you is that you can’t convince kids that you love and care about them, as he says he does, while treating other kids like dirt. Having honest conversations with a player about his future is one thing. Cutting guys or pulling offers is different. Sorry if you can’t see that or don’t care but that is one thing Tech has always stood for through all of our coaches.

No, you are correct. In fact it is quite the opposite. Vad Lee is the perfect example. A player wants to play. Upon seeing the emergence of Justin Thomas, Lee was more than content to transfer to an FCS program in order to play instead of potentially being Thomas' back up. The practice, the lifting, the conditioning are probably similar, and at one school you get to play. I think this is important to most players. Tech throws in the wild card of a better education if you stay, but how many opt for that over getting to play? We have had several players come to Tech from other programs to get the chance to play.

There is one reason I can think of that clearly justify Satterfield's decisions, and it does not apply in GT's situation.
If a new coach meets a recruit, or has known him before, and judges that the kid's personality would be a cancer to the team, he is justified in cutting bait right away. With Petrino at the helm, it is entirely possible.
