Say It Ain't So, CJ!

I am a little surprised that he would openly admit it in an interview though.
As far as I know, it wasn't an interview. It was a question on a personality test given by the NFL and provided to all of the teams. Likely, one of the teams leaked the info to hurt (all 3 players) draft status.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone told me that >90% of NFL players have smoked it at least once & >50% are current habitual users.

I honestly don't see what the big deal is. Just because he's smoked pot doesn't changed what kind of person he is. I would have had the same reaction if you told me CJ had been drunk before, whoopdeedoo.

I also hear that CJ's sh*t doesn't smell like roses. I think I was at Tech for two whole days before someone pulled out a bag of pot.

I with you. This is a non-story.

Uhmmmmm, very interesting. I wish you had been my commandant back in the 50's when a jar of the Dawsonville or Ellijay corn concentrate in it's full maturity was the rage. Yessir, where were you when I needed you?

Wait a minute. We don't know what he actually said. Maybe he tried it once or a couple of times in high school or something like that.

Good point. We'll probably never know the context of the Q&A

Possible Q&A:

Q: Have you ever smoked a 'j'?
A: Yes, once in the woods behind the school after football practice when I was in 11th grade.

Although most of us can probably attest to college being a testing ground for things we were not introduced to prior to that point in our lives. I know I can. :eek5:

I would venture to say that at least 80% of the people on this board have tried it at least once!

I'll be the first to post that I haven't tried the stuff, but that doesn't make me any better than anyone else. The public outrage is due to the substance being illegal - even in the NFL. See Ricky Williams for an example of what it can do to a superstar athlete's career.

My guess is there would be a lot of wise-crack jokes being made about the stupidity of the athletes had this not been CJ. My second guess would be that I would have offered the first joke.

CJ will be swimming in the dough come Draft day. No team really cares about a few puffs taken during high school or college. As long as it doesn't become a habit - or at least something that can't be swept under the rug - no team will care.

I am a little disappointed, btut it's just reality. I'd like CJ to be perfect, but of course he's not. It's not even like this is too bad of a thing...like everyone is saying, probably at least half of the people in the draft have TRIED(key word) it. These three just had the balls to admit it. I seriously doubt it will hurt their draft stock(although I'm with GoTech1971...Calvin's probably too risky to be a top 7 draft pick now).

I'm guessing more like 50%. I think that's where some might be disappointed. Believe it or not, many people do choose to say no and CJ seemed like the type to have the strength to do that. I'm not saying all folks who smoke pot are weak but I would guess most do initially try it because of peer pressure and CJ should be above that.

I'll go on record in the "NO" column as well as one co-worker here in the office who is a GT grad. The other corworker never tried it at GT but HS was another story.

If all things were equal and I could hire two guys, one who had tried and one who hadn't, I'd hire the guy who hadn't because it takes a lot more of a man and leader to say NO than to give in. In CJ's case, all things are not equal.

Now if he he is a pothead, I'm shocked and it would change my opinion of him greatly.

I thought pot was banned by the NFL. If 50% are habitual wouldn't there be a lot more guys failign drug tests or are they that easy to beat?

You tell them Rome, I can't wait for a new batch in the fall!

I will say that I am dissappointed in a few on here who put such a person on a pedastal and then when something happens some come on here and say they are dissappointed. Kind of hypocritical if you ask me.

He answered a question from an interview with ONE team and that ONE team as all teams do will share information with other teams.

The man was honest and before we continue to judge the young man Lets wait for the rest of the story.

How is being disappointed hypocritical? It seems consistent to me. If someone chooses to say NO and they hope those whom they love and respect say NO also, then why wouldn't a person be disappointed? How is that judging? I assume by "judge" you mean suggest punishment. CJ was his own jury in that he said he used so he confessed. The judge simply has to decide the "punishment". Who played judge? I read the paper where Gailey was quoted. He seemed shocked and disappointed but I certainly din't see him judging.

I was disappointed when my brother started using and now am saddened as he continues to use years later. I will be disappointed if my children choose to use but it won't kill me. I assume we all disappoint people all the time in life but we have opportunities to change our behavior or make different decisions in the future.

They are pretty easy to beat unless you smoke A LOT and it does depend on how the test is administered. For urine tests, it's out of the system in just a few days. There are other tests that can detect it up to a month after use (hair test?).

And the NFL doesn't test unless there is reason to believe that someone needs to be tested (i.e., Ricky Williams & Randy Moss admitting in an interview that he likes the pot).

Passing tests (chemistry tests, of sorts) was often a concern of my college roommates.

OK THWG, misrepresentation of words. I'm not an english major as you can tell. Maybe I'm surprised that so many on here are surprised that he tried it whether it was at Tech or HS.

This is not going to affect him one bit with the draft or endorsements. Now MOMMA is a whole different situation and one I wouldn't want to be involved with.

I still believe there is more to the story and it will come out post draft.

Nah thwg, I'd say way more than 50% in the draft have at least tried it. Unless kids go straight from school to home and never go out, they've been exposed to pot and worse. It would shock me if only 50% hadn't at least given it one try.

It's extremely common for college age people to experiment with what's going on and marijuana has been going on for generations.

Bottom line - no big deal. The kid is just being honest.

(everybody's smoked pot. 'cept maybe CCG.).

If I was an All-American receiver stuck with Reggie Ball as my QB I'd get high too.

I almost posted something similar but I but my tongue for once.
