Say It Ain't So, CJ!

Nah thwg, I'd say way more than 50% in the draft have at least tried it. Unless kids go straight from school to home and never go out, they've been exposed to pot and worse. It would shock me if only 50% hadn't at least given it one try.

I responded to this quote, "I would venture to say that at least 80% of the people on this board have tried it at least once!"

Based on the age, demporaphics, political leanings, etc. I'd be surprised if more than 50% of posters here had tried it. Like you, I would be equally surprised if fewer than 70% of draft picks had tried it based on demographics, education, political leanings, etc.

Well, I never dragged on a reefer, but I got a lot of second hand smoke.

Well, I've also only been around second hand smoke. It seemed disgusting enough to smell and I wasn't jumping for a taste.

That, and stoned people are pretty fun to watch.

It's amazing to me!!!!!!!
Of all of the outstanding things this young man has to show for himself, look what the media has played up on.

Doesn't surprise me all that much that the lad tried something that he knew wasn't the best thing he could do in life for himself.

Am I dissapointed in Calvin Johnson???? HECK NO !!!!!!!!

Am I proud of his trying pot? No Sir, not at all.

But I am proud of the greatness that he has achieved in his stint at GT. It may or may not be a problem for him that he is so honest. Hopefully, the public will have sense enough to realize that CJ is merely human. Jesus Christ didn't condemn the woman at the well, so I surely won't condemn CJ. It's a good thing for my family and me that I was never a "high profile" person like CJ is, because there was a day when I took my part in the social times too.

When we see CJ playing in the NFL, I hope this media hype is NOT what we remember about him, instead, we remember the good that he did at GT.

One of the interesting impacts this "leak" of information is very likely to have is that players will probably learn NOT to tell the truth. When someone asks you, in confidence, a question they have a right to expect an honest answer. In return the person being asked has a right to expect honest treatment and confidentiality of his/her answers.

I'd say this reflects far more on the character of the slimy, pathetic weasel who leaked the information rather than on any of the players. By all accounts these are three good young men and someone without any scruples has taken confidential information that they were honest enough to provide and shared it with the world to impune the character of those good kids.

I was listening to the radio yesterday and John Clayton of ESPN was on and he was talking about a conversation he had this week with Bill Polian, President of the Super Bowl Champion Indianapolis Colts. His first comment was that Polian said they were very familiar with all three players and had spent time getting to know especially Okoye and that this information wouldn't change at all how they perceive those players (of course barring some really amazing trading the Colts won't get anywhere near those three in the draft). However he did say that he is FURIOUS with whoever leaked the information.

Bill Polian, for the record (and I think refrigeratormover can speak to this far better than I can), is one of the most respected men in the game of football. He was GM of the Buffalo Bills when they were architecting that team that went to four straight Super Bowls (a tremendous achievement). He then became GM of the expansion Carolina Panthers and in their second year of existence they went to the NFC Championship Game. After his tenure there he became the President of the Colts and we all know what he's accomplished there. So when you gain the ire of a man like that you've probably hurt your career.

Wait a minute. We don't know what he actually said. Maybe he tried it once or a couple of times in high school or something like that.
Considering he went to Sandy Creek I guarantee you he smoked in high school.

And someone happened to capture the exact moment...

Alright, I've got a question that'll blow this thread wide open:

How would each of you have reacted differently if it was Reggie Ball who'd answered 'yes' to the question?

He generally gets crucified anyway. This would just provide an extra opportunity.

I think I'd react the same way as with Calvin, except I would have said "like everything, you can get away with it if you play well, and he certainly doesn't do that." I would guess Reggie has tried or does it currently, considering how much of a partier he was and how often he was drunk on campus. I guess I also wouldn't really be disappointed, per se, because I don't have any expectations of Reggie or look up to him.

I'm sure I would have made one of the many obvious jokes too...come on, it would just have been too easy. Well, I guess I will make one anyway. I just googled for "Reggie Ball marijuana", and all I could find was articles expressing surprise that Calvin hadn't tried anything stronger considering Reggie was his quarterback all three years.

The reason I brought the question up, was I know I'd be much more critical of Reggie for smoking than Calvin, even though that's probably not very fair.

Easy.. it would at least explain his performance.

I would venture to say that at least 80% of the people on this board have tried it at least once!

My primary vice was always Diet Mountain Dew. I couldn't afford to keep up a cigarette or marijuana habit, even if I wanted to.
