Watching the highlights of the UVA/duh-U game and noting a few things:

1. UVA's QB, Tony Muskett, isn't a great runner and doesn't handle pressure well. He is vulnerable to bad decision making, throwing into coverage, and sometimes holding on to the ball too long. He gave up a critical pick 6 in this game. UVA wins in regulation w/o the pick 6. He does have a good arm and they do have some good WR's but will only hurt you if you give him a lot of time. Everyone knows Tech has had trouble getting pressure, but it looks to be a big key in this game. Get in the offensive back field and good things will happen for Tech. I would be blitzing often. I don't think UVA goes deep effectively so some timely blitzing should pay off. Is Tenuta's playbook still in the office?
2. UVA RB #7 Hollins is a physical back and has some speed too. He can also catch out of the backfield.
3. Hard to tell much from the highlights regarding UVA's D but they kept duh-U well contained most of the game allowing only 16 offensive points in 4 quarters. They appear to have a pretty good defense and it is probably the strength of the team.

A healthy Dontae Smith could be a difference maker as it was this past Saturday.

UVA blocked the run well against Miami in my opinion. They just seem to struggle putting drives together.

We definitely need the defense to step up in this game but I also want us to having custom blocking schemes to establish a run game against their D.

A few stats that jump out:

UVA defense is almost as bad as ours 31.8 PPG vs 30.9 PPG

UVA is worse than us at getting to the QB; 14 sacks vs 7.

We are the best in the conference at not allowing sacks, they are second worst. 30 sacks allowed vs 7.

UVA has the 2nd worst rushing offense; we have the 2nd best. 190 ypg vs 120ypg

We're going to be seeing a lot of orange in the next few weeks.
I already hate pumpkins. And they're orange.

Hopefully he runs like Brady
Not much better. If he's running, it will most likely be good for Tech.

I would crowd the line, blitz often and dare them to pass downfield and overhead. Not saying they can't do it, but I would like our chances on most downs, especially if you get someone in his grill.

Thanks, Buzzilla, for the report on UVA. I agree that it will be imperative for us to somehow get pressure on their QB in the backfield. It sure would be nice to replicate the 8 sacks we got against Wake! :) At least, Tech showed in the Wake game we are capable of having a pass rush.

This wacky pattern of lose, win, lose, win, lose, win, lose, win needs to stop with a WIN against UVA on 11/4/2023! The last time we won 2 consecutive games, in a row, was 2022 when the Jackets beat a ranked Pitt team, on the road, and then beat Duke at home (for Homecoming).

GO JACKETS!
