Searcy Scoring from every angle

I'm going to go back and re-watch the game to see if CPJ calls that play straight up earlier in the game without the pass option to see if Ugag bites on anticipating the fake. If so, I'm sure CPJ noticed and was waiting to bait them into the fake version of the fake it at just the right time.

Check the first and goal play. It was a pitch with JT rolling to the end zone, uncovered.

Do you think UGA realized that was a setup for the throwback? If they were so prepared for the throwback, why didn't they cover JT on first down?

Imagine CPJ intentionally practicing the throwback when he knew someone connected to the dwags (maybe someone from SEC Network) was watching, maybe even saying, "let's practice the 3rd down on the goal line play." He would know that UGag would be waiting for it, and then tell Searcy the middle will be open when the dwag defense follows JT to the corner.

It was a broken play that came close to being disaster. If the refs had called it a fumble, it probably would have stood. Let's not glorify it like it was a brilliant play call.

CJP told reporters that he told Qua not to "do anything stupid" if JT was covered. So Qua running was much more accurately a "plan B" than it was a "broken play".

Something tells me it was a designed run play for Quay to take it back to middle from the get-go. Quay seemed ready to tuck it run to the middle pretty darn quickly.

No, it wouldn't have stood. Not close to being a fumble

Yeah, this points to two issues:

1) They knew the design of the play
2) They knew we were going to run it ON THAT PLAY

Intelligence from high school coaches before the game wouldn't have helped with issue 2). Almost seems like UGA was stealing the play call on each play. With the way we shuttle in plays, it would have to be either a hacked headset or someone lip reading CPJ as he spoke to his A back.

I think if they ruled it a fumble on the field it would have stood. But I also think touchdown was the correct call.

Maybe it was Putin.

Maybe so, but I also think Qua (or maybe Burden with that dolphin dive) secured the ball. I haven't really seen a clear video of the ref sorting through the pile (they were showing crowd shots during the broadcast for most of it, and the best i can tell in the next shot is that the ref is already holding the ball as people are still getting up), but none of the UGA players were jumping up and down or pointing the other way, which makes me feel decently confident they didn't end up with the ball even if it had come loose before crossing the goal line.

Agree it was a bad playcall. It didn't work as designed (whether due to cheating or whatever). PJ basically said Qua was supposed to run it if the pass wasn't there. So Qua's run was the same as a QB scrambling if nobody's open. #3 for UGA turned his head at the wrong time, else he would've been in great position to stop Qua, and Qua made a great individual play. But I suppose people will romanticize it.

If Kirby had not repped that play so much in practice, #51 might have tackled Qua for a loss instead of sprinting to cover JT.
