it reeks of bush league athletics when you have two thursday home games.

I have to eat two Thursday games for what legitimate reason?

I am paying 2k for tix and fees and and we have 25% of the games on thursday night?

Are they saying that GT only has an ATL fanbase that matters?

If they keep this strategy they will lose another season tix holder. I can buy on the fly and watch the rest on TV.

I'll buy your Thursday night tickets for Miami in a heartbeat, and would buy the JSU ones if I didnt already have some coming

lawbee, for once we agree. I live in savannah and this is bush league. Its also bush league that we have scheduled Gardner Webb and JSU in the same season. Both home games.

I like DRAd but he needs to show a lot more balls in the scheduling department. This was the only strong suit of Dave Braine, who lacked everything else.

I'll buy yours for Miami if he doesnt wanna sell his.

I'm in Statesboro, maybe I could even meet up with the famous BoR!

I'm only buying season tickets in odd years until DRad gets the schedule fixed.

Even if Kyle is joking, there is a number of people who follow this suit and there are two sides to the coin here for me.

On the one hand, I do want Dan to fix the schedule and make it a little more even from year-to-year (This has been needed even more since we stopped playing FSU yearly and Miami hasn't lived up to what it was supposed to be) just for the enjoyment factor.

On the other, I wouldn't mind him leaving it the way it is for the simple act of not giving the people who are only buying seasons tickets based on who we're playing (As opposed to our own team) what they want.

Don't get me wrong, I want as many butts in the seats attached to torsos with Tech shirts on as we can muster - but part of the main problem we have with attendance to games like Virginia, Wake Forest and Maryland is that it's become too much about who we're playing and not how we're playing.

But I guess if we play better, that will change. Seems like it was different from 98-01. When we played the Citadel in 01, I recall the stadium being rather jammed.

Just go to the freakin games

I live in Greenville, SC and I have a 2 year old daughter and another on the way, but I will be at all the home games this fall, including both Thursday night contests. In college, being on Thursday night is akin to being on Monday night in the NFL.

The dates of these games have been announced for weeks. Everyone knows well in advance and should be able to plan around these 2 games. It's only 2 evenings!

/end rant

While ESPN is doing their absolute best to put MNF on the level of Thursday Night Football, the latter still doesn't have quite the prestige level. But the point and problem is that most people's jobs and work related (Or location/money related) issues don't let them get to Bobby Dodd Stadium at 7:30 on a Thursday night. For most people, being able to make Thursday games has little to do with dedication and everything to do with sensibility and time.

Why we have two DIAA schools on the schedule:
Originally we were supposed to play Army but they backed out forcing DRAD to scramble around and find anyone available and willing to play a 1 game series. Most D1 schools would not agree to an away game with no return date. IMO, this was almost completely out of DRAD's control and he did the best thing he could which was to get a home game from a team that won't require that much $$, meaning GT makes the most dough off this match-up. It sucks, but it's better than an open date.

Why we have two Thursday night games:
Originally Jax State was scheduled for Saturday but the brainiacs in Atlanta decided to schedule a Clemson-Alabama matchup at the Dome for the same time. Atlanta traffic around GT will be nightmarish as Clemson and Bama fans flood the ATL. Again, this isn't the best scenario, but it's much better than it could've been.

Bottom line IMO, DRAD was thrown two curve balls that no AD would be expected to contend with and are very doubtful to happen again in the future. He didn't screw up the schedule but worked his tail off trying to fix it. Keep in mind that teams are scheduled years in advance, even if the dates of those games aren't picked until each January.

Exactly, it is what is. We were put in tough sitiuations. Personally I'd prefer to just replace the Army game with a single away game with a D1 school. We were going to have to play Army on the road anyways. I know some of you guys will miss the home opener and the Miami game because it's on Thursday, but if you get a chance, try to get tickets to the UGA and Clemson games. I haven't missed a UGA game in Athens since the 90's, and man, that experience has mostly sucked. I'd like to go to the Clemons game, too. The best advice I'd give is try to make some lemonaid from life's lemons.

Good post.

I lived out of state for 10 years and could not get back for a single game. I can't tell you how much I missed my GA Tech football. I buy tickets to see Tech play first and foremost, then the opponent. If it's a down year opponent-wise, so be it. Tech will always be on the field.

FSU, MSU, UVA and Miami are all pretty solid teams, and all will push us to win. We haven't beaten FSU since they joined the ACC 16 years ago. We've never played MSU in the modern era, and they are an SEC team we need to beat. We let UVA steal one from us last year and ultimately ruined our season, so we have a little revenge motive there. We are looking for 4 IAR against Miami, who publicly stated that the ACC wasn't in their league when they joined.

Duke is Duke, but they have a new coach who might do some things there. Remember, nobody thought UNC would be worth a rip last year either. G-W and JSU are the same as Samford and Army to me.

All in all, it's a little off from last year, but still some good games. Thursdays are tough to make, but BDS is beautiful at night, and it's only 2 nights a year.

Point blank, we're playing two DivII schools because Army is a bunch of assholes. Can't hang that one on DRad.

We're playing Miami on Thursday night because it's our once-per-year big national exposure Thursday night game. It's a tech tradition for the last decade, and whining about it is dumb. We also had a pledge in place from the AA that we'd never do two Thursday night games in the same season, since around 2000.

We're playing J State as a one-time exception to that rule this year because it allows us to start practice early, and we need the practice. It's to help our team.

Man up and deal. God willing we'll never get screwed like this again, and we'll be back to one Thurs night game as usual in future seasons.

I'll be at both.

You mean traffic will be worse on Saturday than it will on Thursday afternoon rush hour? Don't think so.

I've been to Tech games on Saturday with events at the dome and Phillips and have yet to experience traffic as bad as on Thursday night games. I hate 'em. I have to leave my office near downtown, go pick up SWMBO, and go back downtown for the game, all in terrible traffic. And get home after midnight and still be at work Friday morning. I'll be there, but I do. not. like. it.

It's a Thursday night game. Don't you leave work at noon like me to start tailgating??? There's no traffic then.

I thought I had heard they moved our game because of traffic congestion, but it may be more along the lines of what beej67 mentioned about earlier practice or maybe we just didn't want to compete with drawing local fans. Who knows?

I think it is important to keep your money w/ the program as long as Drad is making the moves he is making. Don't like Th games either, but this a big time to support this staff if you believe this one will succeed.

Sometimes, but I still have to go get SWMBO. Sometimes I have to work until the last minute.

I we schedule GSU in the next five years for a SAT game. Last time GSU played UGA they brought 25K fans to samford stadium. I think it is a safe bet to think GSU would bring 20K to Tech and sell out the stadium.
